"What do you mean $500 for a black-and-white 5-inch portable TV set? My brother-in-law can get it for you wholesale!"

Bought the bundle, DVD even. Half for Civ IV, love that series. Is TechTool Pro any use currently?

Oh, and as soon as I get to my iPod, I'm buying Galcon Labs. I played the original and it was an addictive 1-minute game hit. With GameCenter, should be even more so.

I'm desperately afraid of loading Civ IV. I lost several years of my life to Civ II.

Ditto. And Civ Revolution on iOS has whiled away many sick days for me. Maybe I should wait til I retire.

What a journey.
that is why I don't watch TV. I know my limits.

Damn - that's a good deal - will they ship internationally I wonder...

Great tip, CS.

A colleague bought the bundle but warned me to disable 'auto-renew'; https://www.macupdate.com/members/purchases/

Ooh. Thanks for pointing that out. Kind of sleazy that they do that. I wouldn't have noticed until the renewal happened.

What a journey.
be wary of that 'scheme' with on-line, affordable/cheap magazine subscriptions as well.

I have two rev-1 iPads for sale, and I'm offering them here and I offered them on Facebook, so that friends have a chance at them before I go to eBay and Craigslist with them.

- 64GB Wifi-only, Has a small scratch on the glass. Comes with an Apple sleeve. $400.
- 64GB 3G + Wifi. Has a couple small dents on the back. Comes with an Apple sleeve and dock. $650.

I have all of the original packaging for both of them.

Thanks for the heads up, tliet...

The iPad just ain't cutting it for my wife's school needs. The internal website isn't friendly for it, too many course materials are in Flash, and she can't upload files to a website on an iPad. So I need to get a cheap-ass laptop for her. As much as I'd love to get a MacBook Air, that's not in our budget and she was perfectly happy with the old C2D MacBook before it got stolen. Anyone have or know where to find a Mac laptop that can run even 10.4 for a few hundred?

Too bad there isn't a Zotero plug-in for mobile Safari. Hey, market need! Or an iPad version of Papers (http://www.mekentosj.com/).

I hate it when online academic libraries use Flash -- eLibrary uses a Java plug-in! At least you can sort of copy and paste from it, though the usability is not great.

Sorry, JK, I haven't found a cheap upgrade from my old MacBook, else you could have what I'm typing on now.

Remember, there's that iOS browser that renders flash server-side and sends you an HTML5 version? Skyfire. (I answered my own question.) No good for games, of course, but it works for videos... it might work for course materials. Or you could jailbreak and see if Frash works.

ddt, there is an ipad version of papers. still has some bugs in it, but it's there.

Thanks, baha. I don't have an iPad but will look at that. Still wishing the app had Zotero integration! What it does now is take exported libraries but doesn't preserve author, title, etc., info, so it lists all the articles as "article" or "author" or such. Not that helpful. What do you use it for?

ddt, why don't you get CS's MBP (how do you link to posts here? It's in iBox) and hand me down to defray the cost? :)

For her needs, an old netbook would work, though I'm still trying to bring myself to do it.

Johnny, have a look at a Dell Mini 9, the one that I got almost 2 years ago is still running fine. It's currently some sort of NAS and download station, running 7/24 for about a year now.
