"What do you mean $500 for a black-and-white 5-inch portable TV set? My brother-in-law can get it for you wholesale!"

VirtualBox now has "experimental" support for Mac OS X guests. Maybe I can run OS X on my Windows machine at work...

Whoa... that's potentially huge. It doesn't say X Server. I wonder if that's intentional? And how long Steve will let Larry get away with it?

Let me know how that goes.

It's a violation of the Mac OS X user license, but not illegal from the VirtualBox side. I'm sure that Parallels and VMWare want to stay on Apple's good side, but if a competing FREE product offers a major feature that they don't, they may be forced to risk Jobs' displeasure.

Depending on how cleanroom the implementation is, it's not *necessarily* strictly true that VB is legal. There's something that MOSX relies on to know it's on the proper hardware, and if VB implemented circumvention, that could be Psystar all over again.

Still, it'll be nice if it survives.

Got some stuff going on eBay

Also have two auctions going on at the Internet Garage Sale.

More to come, this is just all that I've had time to take pictures of :/

Best Buy has $50 iTunes gift cards for $40. With the Mac app store going on line in two weeks, it seems like a good time to stock up.

(Anyone else noticed how frequently iTunes gift cards have been discounted this year? It seems like someone always has them for 20% off, or at worst 15% off. And for two days the weekend before Thanksgiving, Walmart was selling $50 cards for $35. Sales like this were very rare before this year--competitive pressure?)

Are you certain that you can use an iTunes card with the Mac App store? I would expect so, but I haven't seen anything explicitly stating that.

Found where it's at!
iTunes cards have been the only way retailers put Apple products on "sale." E.g., buy this iMac and get a $50 iTunes card.

Eh, just remembered the buy this MacBook and get an iPod FREE!

Not at all certain, John. If I can't use the cards for apps, I'll just wind up using them for books and/or movies over the next year.

Dave, I know that retailers have used iTunes cards as an incentive for people to buy Macs (or iPods, for that matter) for awhile, as a way of getting around MAP restrictions. But this is different--until this year, it's been unusual (not unheard of, but unusual) for the cards themselves to be available at a substantial discount, with no separate purchase required.

I've got a few things on eBay right now, if any Sporkers are interested:

There was a 5G iPod on there, but it went for the "Buy it Now" about five minutes after posting. I guess I had it too low. :(

Cool, thanks.

Can you use the Shure earbuds w/ an iPhone, to talk also?

Is there a way to hook the Motorola S9 to a TV or stereo for wireless listening?

The Shures don't come with the mic connector, but I have one that I'd throw in if a Sporker wins the bid :D

The Moto S9's would only connect to a TV or stereo if it had a bluetooth adapter with the A2DP profile.

As a very happy S9 owner, I urge someone to buy these for urban/exercise usage. No wires, controls on the ears - a better experience.

Some Amazon reviewers complain of sweat-malfunction with the S9 and S10, that has not been your experience?

just don't sweat, duh.

New MacUpdate Bundle

$49 gets you:

Parallels 6
Divvy
1Password
MacUpdate Desktop
DVDRemaster Pro 7
Mac DVDRipper 2
Hands Off!
App Tamer
TechTool Pro 5
Civilization IV
A Better Finder Rename

As with most of these bundles over the years, Parallels is the big draw since it's normally $79 by itself.

What a journey.
Of those, 1P is the best draw, imo. That is a pretty good bundle.

Jeff Cooper – March 16, 2011 09:35AM Reply Quote
That's one heck of a bundle. Purchased.

johnny k – March 16, 2011 09:49AM Reply Quote
Is Parallels 6 still the king of the VM pile?

What a journey.
I think so.
