Agreed -- makes me want to support the man's business on shear "this is way things are"-ness. Lord knows how much the vultures of firms like Monster try use ridiculous arguments against legitimate business people. If they were sending such letters to some obvious rip-off artists it would probably go unnoticed, and sadly those rip off artists are most likely to harm things much more than a little guy honest competitor...

Been running the kill a watt all night on the 27" imac and it looks like its power consumption is pretty modest when the screen is off. That means that the mac mini can be retired from its duties as a server. But it also leads me to ask…

I have an Appletv and a Roku box. Should the Mac Mini replace these?

In preparation for my big trip, I picked up a 160GB iPod Classic. Now I'm going through the process of merging my two iTunes libraries into one so I can sync EVERYTHING onto this iPod.

I am about 2/3 of the way finished with importing everything from my desktop's iTunes library into my laptop... then I face the task of clearing out all of the duplicates. I've never had to do that before but I know iTunes has a "Show Duplicates" option... I'm hoping it's easy enough to eliminate the appropriate dupes.

It turns out I didn't have THAT many dupes so it didn't take too long to clean everything up. Now I have everything on my laptop and I have my laptop synced with the new iPod. Still 64GB free on the iPod... I guess I need to rip some more DVDs.

I think even Apple has their keynotes in iTunes podcasts,too.

I also like "Stuck in the 80s" podcast. Download those, and catch up with the past.

John Hodgeman's Today in the past, is super wacky stupid stuff.

Back in December 2004, I bought a pair of Shure EC3 earphones. They served me quite well for five years but when I took them out this weekend, I was sad to see that they were broken. So I started shopping around for something to replace them. I actually bought a pair of Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 earbuds but was disappointed in the sound quality.

Since I leave this weekend for India, I don't have time to order something online and risk them not being delivered on time so I started checking local stores to see what they carry. I found out that the local electronics chain, Ultimate Electronics, had the Shure SE420 earbuds listed for $149. I assumed this had to be a typo because these things list for $399 and usually sell for at least $299. The cheapest I could find them on Amazon was $197. I decided to check it out, though... sure enough, Ultimate has stopped carrying Shure products so that was their closeout price. The closest store didn't have any left but there was another store nearby that had them. I drove down there and picked them up.

Wow. I loved my E3c earbuds but these are just amazing.

I was about to settle for the Shure SE210 earbuds which go for $149 themselves so I'm quite happy with the significant upgrade. The same store has the SE310 for $99, too.

Okay, one drawback to the earbuds. They're sort of TOO good. I think I need to re-rip my CD collection at a higher bit rate now.

I'll put a second vote in for This American Life. I've got a long commute and TAL makes the commute a lot less bad.
