something interesting to tide people over for a while: discussion of the legal issues brought up in BSG. remember, lawyers run in the adama family.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.

I listened. Some of it was the same ol same ol from Eick and Moore but there was some great bits surrounding the politics and torture episodes. Thanks for the link.

kinda hoped it'd be more academic and stick to issues of law (like how situations such as in the show would fall in real-world legalities) but it ended up sounding a lot more like fanboi talk.

According to the ad below we finally get Season 3 on DVD 3/18.

Wonder if I should wait for the Blu-Ray.

Yes, and I should be able to watch its badness in all it's HD glory.

I have friends in OZ who've watched the entire season 3. I put the notion to them that while I haven't seen all of season 3, I'd heard it really jumped the shark.

They got very "thingy" about my assertion. Too much Kool-Aid?

Well, I think you can like the show because you have invested yourself into the characters and you want to know what happened, but the shit the writers put them through is comical. For me, it takes itself so seriously, at times I think I am watching a poorly written farce of the show.

yeah, there is a lot of soap going on. and the plots veered, but i like that there is a strong character-development focus to the series (as opposed to say, star trek, where everyone was always the same person). a few episodes were clunkers, with characters acting, well, way out of character.

and there's news of caprica. have to say, i am vastly amused, looking at the facial expressions of all the actors sitting up on stage. looks like they've been stuck there for a while before the presentation began.

I understand that BSG wants to get through some complex things, and that they need to get them done over the course of the season because you never know when the network will pull the plug, however, they have decided to take on way too much. They don't have to explore every single character to the nth degree. I think a better focus would have added more coherence to the series, especially the last few seasons. I don't mind the series making me go "Hmmm", I just hate it when I am constantly thinking "Wha??". Sure, that means some characters will be a little weaker, but when you only have 12-15 episodes a season, you need to make some sacrifices.

I think they just need to explore ONE character deeply. And if they need ME TO, all the better.

What a journey.
