Searched Orbitz for Indy-to-London. WTF is with these type of flights' costs?

$341 + $437 taxes & fees = $778 per person

$437 TAXES AND FEES!!!?!?!??!?!?!? Damn.

And of course the US's government corruption. It is not just a coincidence that the guy that was arrested with Blago was his Chief-of-staff AND Daley's former head of O'Hare concessions. Lots of good old fashion fun-to-spread around graft and few people to stick around long enough at the airport to complain about the screwing they get...

I've never understood how airlines are allowed to leave all those fees off the ticket prices. I mean, since having an airport each end of the flight is generally regarded as non-optional, shouldn't airport fees get rolled into the ticket cost? Likewise the TSA fee (if I decline to pay it, do I get to avoid the circus of the security lines?) If you buy milk at a supermarket, you don't get hit for delivery, storage and refrigeration fees when you go to pay. It's included in the sticker price.

It's the same shit your cel phone company pulls. But we still put up with it.

In the EU it's not possible anymore to advertise prices which exclude the fees. This was done of course after numerous complaints regarding 1 euro tickets that turn into 180 euro tickets when trying to book them.

Okay, this is the only site I've come across that actually produces CHEAPER prices for travel out of Indy than some of the other areas, like Chicago, Cincy, Louisville.

I still don't get the exorbitant taxes/fees of this international travel schtuff, though.

$623 (plus $154 tack-ons) to Prague/Praha from Indy is CHEAP. Still 'spensive.

Great Lords of Jumanji I just will NEVER understand this flight pricing raise the dead voodoo economics. Leave on Friday? Saturday? Wednesday? Stay 3/4/5 nights? Seems to be no rhyme or reason to the roll-the-bones price at the end of the travel roulette.

Going to be missing yet another connection tonight. Flyinf from ROC to CLE to LAX. However, my originating plane is coming from Newark and is delayed 90 minutes. I'll be missing my connection even though my outbound flight from cleveland is delayed 45 minutes. Oh, and apparently there is no room on any flights before 6PM tomorrow. Hopefully there are no delays tomorrow, because I need to be really, really drunk by 11 or thereabouts so I won't remember if I am making out with a heinous girl at midnight.

Happy New Year fools!

Bill, I've noticed while trying to get transport to London that anything that gets you there in the morning (starting from Rotterdam) is pricey. Anything that's arriving later in the day (say, after 3) is cheaper, but then you lose a day, so basically it's costing you an extra hotel night.

I suspect something similar will also work for long haul flights. A Saturday night stay over will generally make the flight less expensive, but flying on a Friday will make it more expensive.

Maybe doing the opposite of a business traveller would make sense as a tourist.

In Taipei for two weeks on a workshop. Very rainy and still better than New England. Anyone know anything I should check out while here?

The 101 tower is what comes to mind. I watched a show on Tapei I think.
Mostly temples were covered and such. Nothing pops out. Just the big tower.

I went to Germany last year in February. It's off-season then and the prices are very, very good- airfare was $500 out of Portland (direct flight to Frankfurt on Lufthansa- the direct flight from Seattle didn't start until March), the hotel room was smallish but about 55 Euros a night with free breakfast buffet, a stocked refrigerator with beer and pop, and it was next to the Hauptbaunhof (train station), making it very convenient for travel to and from the airport as well as using Frankfurt's extensive public transportation system.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
Hauptbaunhof -- that would be the --main-- train station. :)

I'd like to go back. Spent a few hours browsing in Google Earth all the places I used to bike and travel.

Well, I'm in Athens Greece now.

Just got to the hotel about an hour ago. Internet is nearly $30/day.

My iPhone won't connect to any networks. That's probably a good thing. I'll be using a combination of iChat and Skype to keep up-to-date on the home front.
