It's indeed a bit enhanced but believe me when I say that these skies are not that uncommon overhere. The Dutch masters were of course famous for the specific light in their paintings. For some reason it's special.

And value priced cigars... http://www.famous-smoke.com/dutch+masters+palma+cigars/item+19569?kws=ZWW1918&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_content=cigars_CI-DUT-PALN&utm_campaign=ZWW1918_GoogleBase

What a journey.
arrived in Rochester MN around Noon local time. Mayo is a little island in an otherwise rural landscape.
hopefully we can get some ideas and answers to how to improve my recuperation here.

careful what you ask for! :)

worlds best shower. I think calling it a scalding firehose might be appropriate. nothing wimpy about it for sure.
our room was at first SUSPECT. smallish, near door to parking garage, and our WINDOW looks into the parking garage. the only room that does so. but we got the best nights sleep. the room is ready for my gadget-charging lifestyle.

one hour to go before my first appointment.

What a journey.
Met with doctor. Had the simple tests. Scheduled the next week of tests, education, consultations.
The doctor has some ideas what is going on. The tests will substantiate any evidence for those.
Today's test I have had done before. It is my least favorite, most uncomfortable test I have had.
They snake a wire down my nose, all the way through my small bowel. They bring me in and out of light sedation. They use fluoroscopy to x ray the length of the bowel. I also have an education class today on how diet affects things.

He is thinking that there are some medicines, some very expensive and administered by medical folks, that could help out, as well. Also thinks a small surgical procedure in my throat might help with some other issues BETTER than what I had done in Indy to date.

We had the afternoon off yesterday and ventured to Minneapolis St. Paul. I know nothing about that area. It is much much larger than I thought it would be. Reminding me more of Chicago than various other largish cities. The folks up here build to live in the cold weather. Walkways in a lot of places. You do not see that in Indy area. The sun gets lost very early up here. I need to look at the sunrise and sunset times, but man it seems like it gets dark very very early here. We went directly to the Mall of America. I expected something different. It is literally a BIG MALL. Seems like many other malls, except just more and more in one place. Save for the small theme park in the center. I have never been to IKEA. That is in the same place. Went over there. Not my cup of tea. Confusing layout to first time visitor. They asked me to stop taking photos. :( Sends me to exit fairly quickly.

I dialed in the First Tech address, but it was a bit out of our area, plus later in the day, about 5:30 or so. Did not get a chance to stop by.

Drove back to hotel tired.

Picked a very good hotel. Cheap enough and attached to the Mayo. Room is darn vault like, very quiet. Most powerful shower ever. ;)

Mayo is beautiful. Amazing facility. But everything went wrong that I tried to avoid. All my online forms I submitted were not found in their entirety, the records I had various doctors and hospitals send up, they were not all together. Essentially, I should have just brought everything up in-hand instead. Hopefully smoothER sailing from here on out.

We will be here over the weekend. So anyone knowing some main attractions or events, Al Franken notwithstanding, let me know!

For November 13, sunrise in Minneapolis is 7:08 AM and sunset is 4:46 PM. Then the C.H.U.D.s come out.

How's Brisbane in June?

(Tony, I hope you haven't changed your email in the last 2.5 years...)

Cross-posted from Welcome:

RT,

Got your email and replied but it bounced. Comcast hates either you or me.

In answer to your question, yes (if you don't mind a 2 & 1/2 year old in the room next to the guest room).

Brisbane in June is cool (but not cold). Cool mornings/evenings (10 degrees Celcius (50 F) overnight - but it can drop to 40 F or even lower on really cold nights) and warmish during the middle of the day (18 degrees (64 F) to 24 degrees (75F)).

I will be wearing a thermal and a jumper - and if it's a cold day - quite possibly a beanie (cold mornings have me cold for the entire day). You'll be wearing jeans and (possibly) a long-sleeved shirt and wondering what the hell is wrong with me. Hell, being from Seattle, you may even wear shorts (please don't - people will assume you're from Victoria).

(As for me - well I've alway believed in 'pants are optional'...)

:)

Now - let's see. If RT comes, that means only Robb, Bruce, porruka, JW, JK, Remy, Daniel & Curtis Harlow, ddt have to come visit for the travel ledger to be square...

I think it's more a general rage against the world (he says, looking at how the 'Other Taxes and Fees' box on the bill has mysteriously gone up another few cents).

Tony,

Definitely working on squaring that ledger. I was in Singapore last December, but alas as close as I could get.

You'll be disappointed with Brisbane's "Casino" (certainly no waitresses dressed up as playboy bunnies ala Peppermills...)

Well, I don't know if I'll make it to Brisbane on this round. The closest I'll get is likely Bali, if I make it at all (the joblessness I've experienced in the last 18 months or so is complicating my finances quite a lot).

That being said, I am saying up miles for another go-round at this, and I think I have a strategy to get there.

Bali is probably nicer than Brisbane - leave your boogie board behind though...

I just recently got a email travel deal for Bali, the Hilton 'huts'. Nice looking place.

Booked a month long round trip to Bangalore in December for our (quite) belated honeymoon. No plans yet apart from going to Mysore, Chennai and hopefully the Andaman islands. Cloudscout, any particular fond memories about Bangalore that you'd wish others would also like?
