What do aftermarket fog/driving lights have to do with anything? :)

Well, they say that Greece was the Light of Western Civilization. I didn't know it was aftermarket, though.

Going to NZ in a week. For all the buzz I'd read about "NZ is very wheelchair friendly" on various travel sites it's turning out to be anything but.
Buses? Nope.
Trains? Sort of if you're willing to get on an airplane aisle chair (so basically no for me)
Whale-watching tour-boats? Nope
Hire vans? No "dignified" solutions like modified Dodge Caravans. Only crappy Toyota Hiaces with hoists, no visibility for wheelchair passengers, and shocking suspension.
Was planning to do a Christchurch -> Wellington -> Auckland road trip but it's now going to be basically bumming around Christchurch and then flying up to Auckland (which is going to suck - domestic flights are a horrendous pain when you're in a wheelchair) and then flying home. And all this because my darling s.o. - god bless her cotton socks - has to jump at every chance of "cheap flights, buy now" without any thought or planning. They always come at a cost, namely my ability to travel in comfort with dignity...
God I hate (rushed, unplanned) travel...
That is one thing I really did like about the US, the options for accessible travel are pretty darn good.

What a journey.
Just go to Epcot (Disney in Orlando) and you can travel around the world in a couple of hours.

Well, scrap Dubai as a destination, people are finally discovering what it really is. A sandpit with a huge number of new buildings in it
that are worth next to nothing in 2 years time and very harsh laws.

I'd still go there if I had the time/money.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
I've been laughing at the desperate Arabs building indoor ski arenas and more monstrosities in the middle of the desert in a grab for relevancy beyond the black gold that lie in the ground. It's like a bad reality TV show.

Found where it's at!
We're planning a week-long trip to Italy in April. Besides our oldest daughter wanting to catch an opera or two, we don't have any firm itinerary. Any tips would be welcome!

Where in Italy? I always pimp this site,
http://www.italyguides.it/us/italy_travel.htm because they made heavy use of QTVR and podcasting.

I've read that the gladiatorial combat in the Colosseum is very good, and the races at the Circus Maximus. But this brochure is a little dated.

Hideously Unnatural
Well, I'm back from Greece, and in North Carolina for the next three days.
I have many pictures and some video from the 5d, and I'll be putting them up sometime after the 12th.
Commentary on the trip will follow on my blog when time permits.
Naturally, I'll link to both here when that happens.
The big takeaway (again) from international travel is that the US could learn a whole shit-ton about how people in the service industry treat their guests. This definition of service includes airline agents, flight attendants, customs officials, and airport personnel, but also includes things like environmental stressors (PA announcements, signage.)
