Travel Channel: Where are you going today?

Panama til Thursday. Ugh.

Just got back from a week of Disney. There went all my money. 16 hour drives are a pain, though. :)

We went to a tiny little place 200 km south east of Paris the last few days. Was originally going spend 10 days there, but pressing issues at work prevented me from going earlier, I joined my gf and her teenage daughter there.

With 7 people per square km (1000+ in the Netherlands) it felt like alone on the planet. No motorways, trains or planes to listen to. We stayed at the house of the grandfather of my gf's daughter, a 200+ year old farm that he is gradually restoring.

It's a bit far, but I'd like to stay more at that place, although I'm not ready to admit to my gf that I like it there. (the fastest internet connection is good old 56kbit dial up)

I'm in beautiful downtown Silverdale, WA, for a three-day working group (IPT, bunch of dudes working in the same project,...) meeting. I tried to get here Monday via Chicago, but thanks to the morning, evening, and nighttime storms, I didn't get in until 0600 Tuesday - a 26 hour odyssey. The lightning show was pretty amazing, and so were the lines for assisstance in Concourse C at O'Hare.

thinking about going to vancouver for their laboUr day and seeing a day of the singing festival (either the new pornographers or neko case). anyone heading up that way?

We missed each other by days, Madaracs; I was in Akumal (a few miles down the coast from Playa del Carmen, the common jumping off point for Cozumel) from the 1st to the 10th.

Going to Seattle/Olympia on the 13th... just casual trip. I rarely have to travel for work. I'm either not as important, twice as boring, or twice as lucky as those of you who travel a lot for work.

Oh well. I was in Panama last week. Anyone there?

We have a timeshare there at the Marriott's Waiohai resort on Poipu Beach. It's a 3 Room villa that sleeps 8. Full kitchen, dinette, living room, guest room, master complete with whirlpool, washer dryer, etc...

If you've not already booked I could refer you as a possible timeshare owner (you have to sit through a timeshare presentation for an hour or two) which get's you 5 days at that resort for about $800... the rooms there are normally $600/night.

We just bought our second week of timeshare there this trip. Now we can potentially go there every year for a 7 day stay. Oh and according to our contract, if we trade our week in Hawaii we get two weeks almost anywhere else in the Interval International chain of timeshares.

Oh yes. If you want an active day I highly suggest the Outfitters Kauai Kayaking, Hiking and Zipline tour.

One of the days we did a "theatrical luau" too. Mmm... pig. If you've never been to a luau this is probably a good one to start with. It's pretty highly rated. I'm not much for luaus... but it was good and the fire dancing was exceptional.

Food recommendations:

Bubba's Burgers - Either location is great. Kapaa is easier to get into--suggest 11:30 for lunch to beat the rush.

Keoki's Paradise Our favorite spot. The food is awesome and the ambiance is festive yet beautiful.

Duke's (a traditional pit stop for those getting into the island) great lunches owned by the same people as Keoki's.

Roy's - A chain, but very very good food. A little more upscale. Maybe a bit overpriced. The chocolate souffle is a must. Even if you're not a huge chocolate fan. Heck, go for desserts and save yourself some money.

Casa di Amici - Italian Hawaiian fusion. Highly recommend the scallop appetizer and you can't go wrong with their seared ahi in lemon butter caper sauce.

Oh and one more: Kintaro - Japanese restaurant... Great sushi excellent service. A local favorite.

We'd like to do some ziplining/kayaking. (My wife won't do open ocean kayaking, but I don't think that will be a problem.) Is that something we should book in advance?
