Who the hell thought that was a good idea? What next, a gift shop at the Holocaust museum?

What's the big deal - you have some kind of problem with
gift shops?

I can see where it could lead to some less than honorable merchandising.

I don't know what's more American than to keep shopping to help capitalism win.

It really is sad to see how effective the propaganda machine is at keeping people focused on trivial things like gift shops vs. what truly matters.

There are billions of people.. plenty to focus on minutia. And some I would NOT want focused on the important things... see them every day in traffic. :)
and one or two discussion board posts do not mean anyone in particular is OVERLY focused. One of 300 internet items that attract MY attention on a daily basis...
I focused on MY important thing this morning. CT scan at 7 am... done... onto LESS important things... :)

We still/yet again have people on many overpasses/bridges with very large (temp) structures of flags and such for memorial to 9/11 losses. I went under one that had a firetruck parked over the the roadway below, all emblazened with flags, and folks attending to them; waving them. Nearest to work, their structure was up before 5:45 am. And state flags ordered half-staff/mast.

I think that there are uncomfortable decisions to be made, but they won't be publicly stated until after the mid-term elections in November.

It will be extremely messy in the short/medium term - but I think complete withdrawal from the region is the least worst option.
Iran, Saudi Arabia and assorted other fencesitters would then have to clean up their own mess.
It's that or have a *permanent* (as in "Iraq for eva!") occupying force of 300K+ troops -- which no-one other than John McCaine would be keen for.
ISIS would love the latter as it gives them an opportunity to kill thousands of western infidels.
