In this day and age, we need a A/V database (perhaps other rich content) of all the major job/career "day in the life of..." things.

That is, if a kid (or ddt) wants to be a plumber when he grows up, why not have a database of videos and major tasks, as well as income and such, depicting a fair and accurate reflection of what it's like to be a plumber?

Perhaps there are things in some career counselors' offices. But, an internet-based, open-source (wiki? errr WORKI?) information sharing thing.

Combine with YouTube-like sharing of real-like, on-the-job videos, too.

An area for pros/cons of the job. Perhaps even get to rating employers and such, too. Mapping out career paths, and the extra training/time/money/studying it might take to reach another, higher or specialized job.

What a journey.

That's actually a great idea. I could see decent sponsorship opportunities too -- military would be a huge sponsor, colleges, clothing brands. If only you had the luck to have parents like Zuckerberg...

You could probably patent this idea, though the amount of protection that would afford is questionable...

I'm always thinking of you. Everytime I work out on the heavy bag, with your photo on it! ;)
You better start saving up money to buy a round of drinks for the election win next year.

Hmm. Dedicated database hardware tops the list... built from the silicon up to run relational/object databases, the way Cisco gear is designed to spit bits over a network interface, or a Juniper Netscreen is designed to firewall those bits spit at it. Oracle is part of the way there, taking over the filesystem from the host OS, but still. Massively multi-threaded and clustered, with a spinning-disk backup to solid state storage, accessed and written to by hard-coded ASICs... oh, yeah, that would be sexy.

A har dee har har!!!!

I only hear that in old Flintstones and Hanna Barbera cartoons. Are you, perhaps, that lost 60's cartoon character, "Guns van Speedy?"

Anyone got a simple software idea they want done? I'm cracking open the Cocoa books to get geared up for some bigger ideas I have, but first I need to start with a step or two above the blank app that you start with. Also want to dip my toes in a FaceBook app.

Ha! Since I quit my job, that's what I'm doing! Or will be, after 2/17. Dibs on the second-best idea!

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
There are like 57 things you could make and sell to idiots at rich colleges and universities. Serious shit being shoveled direct to offices that typically bypass IT or other savvy folk. Anything to do with calendaring or scheduling.
