I had an old PC ATI card that was flashed with the Mac firmware on my old G4 so it does work. You'll have to search around to find out if people have been able to do it with the x1900

Yeah, it looks like people have found a way to do it with a specific model of the X1900. Kinda hard to find, though. Hrm.

Just because the numbnuts apple "genius" didn't have an answer, don't let it end there.
first try Applecare:
Phone support: 1-800-275-2273
then try Apple customer relations Applecare has to connect you and you have to specifically request to speak to them.

I started with Applecare. Even paid the $50 to open an incident since it was outside of the free incident period. That's who directed me to the Genius bar after an hour of troubleshooting.

They sent you the "genius" to get you off the phone.

When I was looking for something else, I ran into a site that displayed all kinds of ROM versions for PC cards. Now that I'm looking for it I can't find it anymore.

Hey, is it just me or are these boards pretty dead these days?

Robert Taylor – March 03, 2008 01:56PM Reply Quote
Sorta, Baha. I think it's a function of the board move.

I think the problem is the term "server grade". I agree with the tone of the article in that it's use here is questionable (and that's surprising for me, since Reg is usually tripe).

It's just marketing. I think most drive manufacturers will tell you it's better to let a hard drive stay up and spinning than to turn it on and off all the time.

I'm now curious as to what sort of drives we use in the Xserve. This bears investigating.

I'll let ya know.

"Chulani clarified that the "server-grade" drives in a Time Capsule are the same 7200 rpm drives used for Apple's Xserve servers, and that they have a higher mean time between failure (MTBF) rating than consumer drives."

Curtis – March 04, 2008 07:17AM Reply Quote

And we know how accurate MTBF rates are...

Mighty Mouse – March 04, 2008 10:43AM Reply Quote
Yep, same drive as in the Xserve. FWIW.

MTBF figures are useless for the most part.

ddt – March 04, 2008 10:55AM Reply Quote
out of curiosity, how is MTBF measured? and does it rely on the platter spinning continuously?

Curtis – March 04, 2008 01:43PM Reply Quote
Well, from reading that article, it does not seem they are based on reality (with between 6x and 30x expected failure rate based on age), so....

Mac OS X Server.

Because it took a whole fucking day to figure out how to get ical Server working, or at least working at home. I can't get it to work with my dyndns.org server, just with my .local server.

All I want is to have a goddamn calendar for the whole fucking family to use. Is that too much to ask? Oh, I'd like it to be available from home AND from our workplaces.

Why yes, why yes it is.
