Mac App Store updates still won't give me anything but https://twitter.com/ddt/status/846898117559574529

Check this thread for some ideas, and a solution that worked for that user. You'll have to manually identify the temp directory that Software Update is using, though.

Hm, tried Disk Utility, then App Store again. No difference.

Instead of deleting that folder from /private/var/folders/zz, I did the old Mac thing and copied it to the desktop then deleted it. No difference. Then tried the Terminal command but it couldn't find the folder to change its permissions (thought deleting it might force the OS to recreate it). Put it back in zz, ran the Terminal command, it still can't see the folder to change the permissions. Maybe I need to reboot and try again.

Welp, try this.

Thanks. It's running, but but it's been at the "When this is done, you'll be asked to restart your computer" for a long time. But I'm running it from my home directory, not logged out or anything.

Weirdness! That updater didn't progress after running overnight, so I restarted, ran it, the updater just jumped to "restart for changes to take effect" so I did, but still on 10.12.3! And still getting that error from the Mac App Store updater.

If I try that Terminal trick, I get:

What's going on?

ETA: running sudo softwareupdate -l in Terminal forced the Mac App store app to connect and get the update! We'll see how that goes. If you don't hear from me in the next few hours... .

You might seriously want to consider backing up, reformatting, re-install and start from scratch. You're running into a lot of weirdness. If you shake a haystack and seven needles fall at your feet, something is very wrong.

Ugh, a clean install? I hear you but dread even trying to remember what was where and looking up serial numbers and such.

Okay, that worked. And App Store updates doesn't give me an error. It was fun.

So, now iTunes (latest update) won't connect to the App or iTunes store, and doesn't see my podcast library though it sees my music library: https://twitter.com/ddt/status/849035868081840129

Help!?

ddt

ETA: Not sure what I did to fix it -- hit the Reset button about the iTunes library in the application Preferences a few times (didn't seem to change anything; the path displayed was correct), then I manually tried to change the path in the app Preferences (after seeing that all my podcasts were in fact there on my computer) -- and then the app crashed. When I relaunched it, things seeeeeemed to be back to the usual?

Is there a Podcast app now? I know that on iOS the Podcasts have moved from iOS to their own app.

ddt – April 03, 2017 06:22PM Reply Quote
Yes, the podcasts get played in a Podcasts app on the device, but I manage that via playlists in iTunes (because it's hideous and limited to try to create time- and content-out-of-order playlists on any mobile app).
