Yes, the old avatars were the best ones, although Bill yours is just fine now, really!

Hey, Tom, is there any chance that we (in the "you" sense of "we") could make a whitelist of authorized posters for the spam filter? Our membership here is pretty static (alas), and that would preserve the intent of the filter while not stomping on the regulars' posts.

I once new a pretty, static lass. Turned out to be a mannequin.

Sadly there is no whitelist functionality in the spam hurdles plugin.

Pepsi cola is a great drink, much better than coca-cola. And you'll get great deals on Pepsi at Wal-Mart.
(I'm trying to trigger the spam filters)

[edit - wtf? That's blatant spam and the filter's letting it through...]

Try mentioning a fruit company's mobile phone and the cell service it uses in its native land and see what happens. I can't post a proper noun without getting bleeped.

The spam hurdles module on this forum software does absolutely no content scanning.
The metrics it uses include:
- Blocking forms submitted multiple times
- Blocking messages submitted to quickly in succession
- A post timer to prevent messages posted too quickly after page render
- A commented HTML form field which normal browsers ignore but some bots might include
- Javascript signing of messages to thwart bots with no JS engine
The only ones I have turned on are:
- HTML commented form field
- Javascript message signing
So, if you are experiencing problems with messages being marked as spam, it's probably something borked with message signing.
Telling me what browser you are using, and if you are using anything like NoScript would be helpful.

I'm using Safari 4, Windows and Mac. Sometimes Firefox 3.something but not often. I do put links in my posts, does that count as "HTML commented?" I don't even know what Javascript message signing is, so I don't know if I'm doing it.

I often post multiple times in quick succession; are you sure that this isn't a problem?

What a journey.
I used to get FSF'd all the time. I have not been FSF'd in a long time.
Kinda like herpes.

JW, do you use the "Insert URL" button to paste in links? Maybe it's a difference between using forum-markup and HTML. And I think JS signing is behind the scenes - just make sure JS is on.

The speed of the post is from display of the form to actual posting of the form, and if JS is turned on, it's supposed to grey out the Post Message button until the delay is up. But, this particular challenge is turned off.
There is an upgrade to the software, which introduces version 2 of the spam module, so if I get a chance, I'll try upgrading to see if that helps.
