Well, yes, you know. We all need them some times.

I don't think that the folks at RIM and Motorola are going to have a good day today.

Specs: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

(No mention of RAM, just like for the first iPad, dammit.)

iMovie on the iPhone is actually pretty amazing in some ways. Not that I have a phone that can use it.

Funny, though the lack of high-res screen is souring me on the new MBP 13", that's not quelling my interest in the iPad 2 even though I don't really know why I'd use it.

Pretty clever "click and drag" animation of the cover: http://www.apple.com/ipad/smart-cover/

Though don't you think all the Gay Blade would have needed was that it is "rigid" and "sturdy"?

He might not have cared for "thinner."

In the specs for the Verizon model, it mentions Rev A... is that the same Rev A that supposedly solved the data+voice issue?

JW:

Having worked in a retail environment I think that Apple has wisely decided that the kind of target market for tablets (and some smart phones...) has better served by NOT cornfusing them about RAM. "How many songs / files / apps can I store" is a numerical value that such buyers can grok. No reason to take em down a path to ask "how many tabs / apps loaded simultaneously / complex graphics objects" can be simultaneously accessed is something Apple consciously is avoiding...

I wanna know if I can sell my wife's wifi-only iPad, but a pay-per-MB data plan on it and transfer my unlimited data plan to a new iPad. Odds on any "wire-tard" at the AT&T store having an answer for this????

I know, Stan, it's just that I hate having to wait for one of the hardware sites to rip one apart to find out.

I have the same question about the unlimited plan. I imagine one of the tech sites will get an answer to this in the next ten days. (My bet would be that AT&T will maintain that plans don't transfer.)

One way or another, I WILL be getting more storage on my iPad. Or, at least, near my iPad.

The resolution stays the same. The storage stays the same. The 3G radio stays the same.

Okay, they've added cameras and a dual-core CPU. It's almost equal to the Xoom now.

How much is Garage Band for the Xoom?

The Contenders. I still don't think that the Playbook has a chance.

Right. That's what it hinges on right now. Apple definitely has a head-start on software but I'm not willing to tether myself to that anymore. Honeycomb has been out for a week now. We'll see what's available in the coming months.

Honestly, though, I have no need for Garage Band on a tablet. Or iMovie. Or Facetime. I would rather use a video chat service that allows me to talk to everyone, not just people with Mac and iOS devices.

I would like to read books, though, and I'm still stuck on the eventual fallout of their 30% demand. I also don't like the inability to use information across applications.

The device looks slick and will be perfect for millions of people... but not me.

Yeah, if they drive Kindle off then I either jailbreak or go to Xoom. Gruber doesn't think that Apple will kick Amazon off of the iPad, but he's even more of an Apple apologist than I am. Of course, he DOES have better sources. Maybe Kindle will get grandfathered...

Well, I imagine you might be okay since you already have the app. Most apps that have been pulled from the app store can still be used by people who had already downloaded them... until the APIs change and the apps stop functioning.

I'm not likely to get a Xoom myself. I'm holding out for the G-Slate.

Hm, iPad 1 is now €379, wifi only or €499 3G.

How much were they normally in €?

A post on Macrumors suggests that iMovie will require an iPad 2--it won't work on the original iPad--but Garageband will work on both.

I don't see Garageband for iPad as a serious recording tool. But it looks like a heck of a lot of fun.
