Well, yes, you know. We all need them some times.

Estore, maybe should do that. Not with that tape; but maybe I can come up with something. It is the combination of tackiness and a raised rib section in the center of the tape that you can pull against that makes it work so well. It's great if I put it on a desk and try to use it, doesn't slide.

Watched an interesting news segment regarding the iPad the other day.
I'm actually concerned the iPad may set a very bad precedent that we should pay for our news and other "online content". Hope I'm wrong...

should taxes be used to pay the staff, then? ;)

well, taxes _are_ used to pay for things like advertising (often tax-deductible for companies), moving companies off-shore (http://www.forbes.com/2010/04/01/ge-exxon-walmart-business-washington-corporate-taxes.html), fire departments, roads... yes, the list is of a mix of things I agree with and things I don't.
one point is that there are such things we as a civilization have deemed as a "public good". that is, effort and money can go in but the beneficiaries are not generally those who invest, but rather the civilization itself. it's pretty well accepted that a free and public press is a public good (this doesn't mean it can't be a private enterprise); the problem of public funding for the press gets sticky, and newspeople resist strongly, when you ponder the "who's the boss of you" issue. fox news probably would have been fine being funded by the government during the bush era, but probably not now.

Got the Apple folding case delivered today. Solves the grippiness problem. And all they gotta do now is put a membrane keyboard in the cover flap; and a flip out trackpad surface.

I think its insane that the iPad can't dock if it has the APPLE case on. It's not like it's easy or quick to put on or take off.

Can't dock in what sense? To the upright dock gadget? Or just to the cable? The cable connects.

In the dock stand (upright dock gadget).
And, even if you have the Apple case folded into it's stand, you can't connect the dock cable while it's vertical, unless you turn it 180°.

Right, either the standard dock or the keyboard dock. One might be able to shave down the case at the bottom (there is a ridge which works to force the iPad away from the dock connector), but why the hell should I have to slash up an expensive case to make it work with other accessories from the same company?

Because it's a really dumb idea to put the iPad on the dock while it's in the case?

So Apple's getting into the ad business; Google's cash cow. Though the ads are far different than Google ads. Hm.

Getting into the ad business where their whole demographic says these are the people you want to market to. Seems like a very strong move but what control will users have?

Likely, users will have the same choices they do now; free ad supported apps, and for-pay ad-free apps.

I disagree. I want the iPad to have a case, so that I can prop it up in all its many and various ways when I use it around the house or around town. At work, I want to put it in the keyboard dock to charge and to allow me to type rapidly when I want to. Taking the iPad out of its case and putting it back at the end of the day is time-consuming and I am prone to dropping the damn thing. I also think that I'll wear out that awkward fold-over flap pretty quickly. I would think that I ought to be able to fold back the cover of the case and settle the iPad into the dock. No such luck. I've ordered a cheap-ass sleeve, which won't prop the device properly in non-dock situations but which will provide some protection and will be easy/quick to put on and take off.

John:
There is clearly a reason for this. It is to frustrate you. You must accept this from The Steved One, and to achieve True Enlightment you must absorb all the info from this link and then banish all thoughts of previous docking solutions --
I can't believe this is still served out of Apple's site...

Duos were neat. I worked for a company that coded apps for Philip Morris in the 90's. They were a Mac-centric company and their sales reps in the field all had Duos. I wanted one, but couldn't afford it.

People should have choices, whereby to demonstrate their strength of character. If you use a product that I've worked on, then you demonstrate your moral laxness and unworthiness. I, however, am a sterling character who provides others with the resources necessary to demonstrate their virtue. It's not my fault if so many fail the test.
And no, no adult beverages yet. But I do strip at a gay nightclub every Friday night. They've asked me to stop, and threatened to call the police, but I keep doing it.
