Well, yes, you know. We all need them some times.

Confirmed by usually reliable source, iPad 3 announcement March 7. Retina display, quad-core A6, possibly LTE. Woo.

Lemme get this straight. The resolution is going to go from 1024 x 768 to 2048x1536??

That's more (horizontally & vertically) than the 21 inch iMac and more horizontally than the 27 inch iMac.

And that's what, a screen resolution of close to 300 dpi?

Talk about WIPMP? The print industry should love it.

Not. Going. To. Be. Cheap.

What I'm interested in is what new applications are enabled by a hi-rez screen and quad-core. iMovie showed off what a dual-core could do (if that wasn't all GPU). Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro? That would be a reason why the UI drifted toward iOS, and a setup for iPad Pro.

Find your iPad, get 780 pounds of crystal meth! Let's see Android copy THIS feature.

Wednesday. Okay, Apple, what am I getting for the next several hundred dollars I'm going to give you?

Jeff Cooper – March 07, 2012 07:49AM Reply Quote
And the Apple Store, inevitably, is down.

It drives me crazy when these events fall on days when I have an afternoon class to teach.

And . . . go.

Ooh! Scary! Scary! Don't we look mean? You can't see me! But I can see you!
I suppose everyone else is in chat but they block that at work so here I sit watching on engadget.

These keynotes are definitely different without Steve.

How soon after is the keynote put up for download?

So... what is its name? "The new iPad"?

Found where it's at!
...EIEIO

I'm still trying to be convinced that this is enough of a step up to replace an iPad 1.

Damned Apple Store won't let me finish my pre-order!

Jeff Cooper – March 07, 2012 11:33AM Reply Quote
There are entirely too many steps in the ordering process, each one of which has the potential to get hung up (and, as a practical matter, does get hung up). It's really infuriating.

EDIT: Phew! Done. That only took 50 minutes.

I ordered the wifi-only 64 gb model. Over the two years I've had my iPad, there have been maybe four times that I wished it had 3g service, and I can now do 3g tethering to my iPhone, so the 4g seemed like overkill. The 64 gb, on the other hand, did not.

Interesting, btw, that after the iPad 2, we're back to just "iPad."

Okay, one more, and then I'll get back to work and stop hogging this thread (at least for the moment), and this is something that porruka, dharlow, and I discussed in the chat room during the presentation: how bizarre is it that Apple is now referring to the rear camera as an iSight camera?

What a journey.
I am still iOS-less. Sure, those that live by my grace here have them. Not I.
I wonder how long I can go with never owning one?

New Apple TV too with iCloud and 1080p.

So that's why I couldn't buy an AppleTV the last few weeks...
