After reading the books, I wondered who they would cast as Brienne. It looks like they found a woman with the right size. I guess they are going to ugly her up with some makeup.

The one thing I've (re-)learned from the books is: Don't bother planning. It will all go to hell, anyway.

Well, finished the first book. I have sore eyes from reading most of the day but I was damned if I was going to spend another night reading until after midnight.

Interesting ending to the first book. I hope Tyrion isn't killed off for a while - he's one of the most interesting characters...

What a journey.
I was not prepared for how bad Sucker Punch struck me last night. Anyone enjoy it?

I read a review and avoided it...

It was apparently very creepy/pervy - but not in a good way...

Tony, I didn't get much sleep until I finished the 5th book.

Well, I was almost going to order a kindle and download the other books today. I hate buying books when the author is halfway through the series and waiting forever. I did that with Stephen Donaldson's Gap series...

On the topic of kindles - who here has one and who is happy with it?

I have a Kindle 2, and it is fine, but now I do all my reading on the iPad with the Kindle app.

I've got my wife a 7 or 8" Kindle 3 with WiFi and she's happy with it, the screen's nice and very readable. We're converting books into its format as Amazon is using its own format. We're using Calibre for that purpose.

do things like graphic novels work on kindle for mac? was thinking no way…heck they couldn't even format what to drink with what you eat (favorite book) well.

I've heard good things about apps like Comixology on the iPad. Comic pros and pundits (comicsalliance, 4thletter.net, savagecritics) really like the reading experience on an iPad, and are jizzing over the availabilty of digital archives. How many long boxes fit on 16GB?

I'm reading Studio Foglio's Girl Genius series in PDF form with Good Reader right now. PDF's work in iBook as well. Great way to read a graphic novel. I can read a page at a time without zooming, but I have the option of zooming if there's a lot of detail in a frame.

ddt,

That was awesome. "Dude, he's like 10" - heh...

Comicsalliance, savagecritics, and 4thletter.net are excellent time sinks (and two of those sites have close Bay Area ties). And the third has a Scottish guy in the podcast.

On your recommendations… I started Game of Thrones. The good: am gripped enough to keep reading, which I have not done with most novels I pick up lately. The bad: thus far it seems like every fantasy writing cliche is being thrown out at me. Getting a little annoyed by that.

Planet of the apes was really good. There were a couple major groan inducing lines but overall very good
