Film, TV, video DVD, DV, Flash. Put the Multi to use here, folks.

I had to give up on watching the movie “Extract” halfway through. I just couldn’t get past the implausibility of the central premise. I can suspend disbelief for monsters, aliens, superpowers, and 25-year-old women routinely being attracted to 50-year-old men. But a movie that turns on the threat of an injured employee filing a seven-figure lawsuit against his employer? Two words: workers’ comp. Can’t get past it.

Royalties? Oh yeah, better look into that...

Well, to be honest, what's the difference these days between 'cloud' storage and 'local' storage. Really, from a user's point of view there is no difference anymore. Why the music industry seems to be insisting on special licenses, a user buys a piece of music and wants to put it somewhere where it's accessible for him/her.

I'm going to ignore the whole "violation of copyright" issue here and just focus on local vs cloud:
Um, when my internet dies, I can still use it and when their internet "has issues" (MobileMe - I'm looking at you!) I can still use it.
Um, my local files are mine (all mine!) and won't disappear when some third party alters their EULA on a whim?
Seriously tliet, (and sorry to be blunt) but what a silly question...

Tony, unplug your Mac from the internet and go to your Drop Box folder. Or, use
Little Snitch to view Drop Box's machinations

I'm not relying on any system that requires me to have a (metered) wireless connection to play my content. It might be a nice way to transfer content to other machines, though.

Bill, exactly.
http://dropbox.com is a perfectly executed cloud based storage. When you're online, it syncs, when you're offline it doesn't. Your files are always there.
From that perspective, there really is no difference between local and online storage.
I'm a huge fan of DropBox; anybody want an account? Use this link:
http://db.tt/JMzVcQj, it will give me extra storage ;-)

I like DropBox, but as long as content is mirrored locally my benefit from cloud-streaming content is pretty minimal.

Yes, in the case of DropBox it's not really relevant (streaming content). However, music streaming of 'owned' music is moot anyway in my opinion. If I want streaming, I've got Spotify. I merely used DropBox as an example of cloud based storage that takes the complexity away.

yes, perhaps if they offered (or someone) a way to set each folder or file's "Cloud-nicity"? Or learn how much it changes, or how often your need/access it, and adjust accordingly.
More frequently --> more local mirroring.
Less frequently --> more cloud-based, offline or streaming
Something along those lines.

The thing is, for me at least, and I suspect for Apple, it's all about mobile devices. Flash memory is expensive and constrained, music and video are ubiquitous and bulky. Cloud would be ideal, except for connectivity. I don't want to lose access to my media when I might need it most (say, on a 737 at 30,000 feet next to a restless child). Yes, I could plan for special cases, but connectivity sucks in many places and I often don't know when I am venturing into a blackout zone. Cloud will never be more than a mild convenience for me until they fix this.

I do wish they had settings where one could "dumb down" these interfaces. I think they have gotten away from people like my in-laws, who want SIMPLE to use apps. Now, I don't me FCP, in particular. I just share TL's feelings on this. I think that is what makes MANY iOS apps successful.

One man's "unusable" is another man's "smooth like chocolate." I love the recent iMovie. I picked it up on the fly when working on a deadline over a weekend. The fact that there was almost no learning curve speaks well of it. I think it's already where you want it, Bill.
