I've always liked Geoffrey Rush.

Have I mentioned the Aristocrats before? It's kind of a meta documentary on comedy and it's very profane and very very funny. I've watched it once drunk and once sober in the last weeks and it held up well both times.

Ah, the Chaser does a parody of that with Alexander Downer

Recommendations for watching when you have down time (or, of course, in place of work or studying):

The Middleman (funny! actually from ABC Family, but full of nerd references, snark, and surprisingly many references to sex)
The Tripods ('80s British adaptation of the White Mountains young adult SF books by John Christopher. Decent SF w/ non-cheesy production values)
James May's Toy Stories
The White Ribbon (movie)
The Red Riding Trilogy (movie)
The Dick van Dyke Show DVD set

... all are available from your usual Bay of People who Go Arrh, Matey.

I loved those books. They always felt like I discovered them, since nobody I talked to had ever heard of them.

Those were pretty cool. I also liked Richard Hammond's Engineering Miracles

Oooh, thanks for the heads-up, Bill! I hope they'll look at some of the actually interesting new US cars coming up (from Ford and GM, of all companies!).

It should be done, I think. Now to wait for torrs or iPlayer to bring it on.

Just finished watching it about half an hour ago. Interesting race between a VW Beetle and a Porsche 911. ;-)

Edit; Daniel, you should know that they can only trash talk US cars. "They're only good for roads with no bends in them..."

Thought they really liked the Ford Fiesta?

ddt

tliet – January 23, 2011 03:19PM Reply Quote
Yes, but though the brand is American, the model is most definitely a European one. According to the Wikipedia article it was adapted for the US market, making it the first Fiesta for the US since the 1980s.

Truth be told, size and suspension (plus mileage) are really the main reasons why US cars don't really take off overhere. And I suspect the other way around.

Ford F-150 best selling vehicle here for like 20 years. Does even one single person in Europe use a Ford F-150 as their daily driver?
And that is tiny driving when you are in Texas where I think every house must own a Chevy Suburban. I remember being behind three suburbans in a row in Texas once. As I pointed out to my wife, we were in the smallest car today in the parking lot. All minivans, SUVs and Trucks.

>All minivans, SUVs and Trucks.

When fuel prices go through the roof - there'll be a lot less of those...

bahamut – January 23, 2011 06:36PM Reply Quote
It's a big divide in this country. Where we live there are minivans and SUVs to be sure (few trucks that aren't used for work), but the daily driver of choice around here is a BMW 5 series.

I'll be happier when (for ONE PERSON COMMUTING TO WORK FOR GODS SAKE!!!) it's in one of these babies...

I mean, how often do you carry a pile of lumber or over a tonne of cargo to warrant driving an F-150 to work???

And if you get the GTI version, you'll cream most american "muscle cars" even in a straight line - ten times so if it it involves steering/curves/etc...

Yes, I know, it's supporting "ze Germans" - but really, it's what they're good at. And sorry, american cars=Fail

I think I'm in the wrong thread for this...

Many people drive a truck not just to work, but as their only/primary vehicle. To everywhere.
I had an F-150 at one time too. Not my only truck, either, over the years.
