with the special effects used to bring fog-shrouded Victorian London to life, and for that alone, it is worth seeing. For a cultural zeitgeist, it's on par with A Touch of Evil, Apocalypse Now, and Blade Runner.

Eh, wasn't Victorian London already done with depp? From Hell, anyone?

So over Johnny Depp.

Me too.

I heard a rumor Chuck is supposed to have two more episodes this season. I can't confirm that they're going to air/have been shot/etc. anyone else know?

Yes. 13 episodes were completed but only 11 have aired so far. Another 9 episodes have been ordered but without writers, they obviously can't fulfill that order yet.

OK. Where can I find the instrumental version of JayZ's "American Gangster" single... it's based on the Menahan St. Band's "Take the Long Road By Walking" (which I have). JayZ's version is much sharper and more intense.

iTunes avails me naught... but I don't want to buy the whole damn album from Amazon to discover the instrumental isn't there. I like rap, but I don't like JayZ, so I'm stumped. (I'm more into Blackalicious and Saul Williams... who I went drinking with one memorable night in Austin, with Beau Sia, Sage Francis(who didn't drink), Wammo (from the Asylum St. Spankers) and Rev. Bart of the Church of the Apocalypse, but that's another story for another thread.)

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
"We Are What You Think" -- an interesting venture.

Spotted also on beet.tv (where I also spotted and noted in the MSFT thread that all Olympic coverage will be via Silverlight).

Has anyone here seen "The Arrival"? It came out the same time as ID4 aka Independence Day. The movie did not have as large a budget or the star power that ID4 did--but was a story of evil aliens coming to the planet. Roger Ebert, whom I often agree with--gave it a favorable review. It did not last long in theaters but of the two movies out that summer, I like this one better. (Bill Pullman's one world speech about makes me throw up every time I see it.) It's not to say Independence Day is terrible... it's just not as well told as The Arrival.

The Arrival was directed by David Twohy who also directed:

-Pitch Black (2000)
-G.I. Jane (1997)
-The Fugitive (1993)

Though he's not always an A-List director, he's had his moments and The Arrival one of them.

Anyway, they made a sequel (direct to video thank God), The Second Arrival aka Arrival II on DVD, and it actually cheapens the first. It has Patrick Muldoon and a host of other B-List and C-list actors. The story, writing and delivery are as high caliber as the actors. It is shot in Canada on a shoestring budget with no extras. It has one of the worst film scores evah! Special Effects? Re-used and cheaply produced at best. It's bundled with the first movie on DVD now. If you haven't seen it, you might not want to bother--unless you're drawn to watching crappy movies like I am. Here are some funny quotes regarding Arrival II. Some of my favorites are:

2007 Weak Dialog, Characters Make This Sequel A Loser
— ccthemovieman-1 « IMDb

2007 Deliciously awful
— paulhoog-1 « IMDb

2005 lame, lame, lame
— eah51 « IMDb

2003 One of the worst movies of all times...
— gbozoki « IMDb

2002 Wall-Mart had a sale ***My personal favorite.***
— Jennifer « IMDb

2002 bad sequel to a great film
— Jonas Kyratzes « IMDb

2000 What a POS
— David Hamm « IMDb

I write this now as I watch The Second Arrival and try to understand why they made a sequel. Anyway, if you've not seen The Arrival. I highly recommend it. Charlie Sheen is great as the protagonist and the movie is a personal favorite of mine in the sci-fi genre.

Immerse yourself in the movie. Lights low and *definitely* surround sound are a must.

I love the Arrival. I think it's Sheen's best. Yes, best. It's one of those movies that I MUST WATCH when I see it on.

Who on here wouldn't be using BC? Using the Julian calendar depends on it.

And why is there a big typo?
