I liked the (can't remember the exact phrasing) "You think you're better than they are?" / "... well, yes!"
Reminded me of one of my fave lines from Real Genius. No-prize for the first person who finds it online.

Are you thinking of the scene where Mitch meets Chris for the first time when Ig has turned the dorm into a skating rink. Chris says something along the lines of, "Do you think you're smarter than me? Well maybe you are, but can you do THIS?" and then he tries skating but the ice melts and he falls down.
I think there was another scene earlier in the movie at the high school science fair when Dr. Hathoway tells Mitch something about how he's different than other people... better than they are.

Well, I'll have to defer to the judges... and they say that yes, you are allowed to get a second guess in. That's the one! "We're not like other people, Mitch... we're... better." And here is your No-Prize.

Anyone else seen "Submarine"? No spoilers, but I can see how it might relate to a lot of the admittedly nerdly here (myself included).

I'm currently two books into Joel Shepherd's series, A Trial of Blood and Steel. I'm really enjoying it. Kind of an Arya Stark character in a world not quite as depressing as Westeros. The first book, Sasha, is free for the Kindle (at least on the US Amazon store).

Finally saw "The Adventures of Tintin".
Loved it.
The weird thing is, in my memory, the movie was animated like the comic books rather than CGI. I mean, if I concentrate, I can remember how the CGI looked but when I casually recall the action, I see the characters as Herge had drawn them.

$12 for
Sasha for us unworthy antipodeans. Ironic given the Author is Australian himself.
Contemplating reading the Daniel Abraham
Dagger & Coin series.
And what's the other one, the black company?

Love the way Blackwater turned out. I started to wonder if HBO is going to give us an alternative ending that finishes in a fourth season. A lot of great ways they could streamline things IMHO.

It was well done. For some reason when I read the books I pictured it was daylight when the battle happened.
They've got a hell of a lot to tie up in the last episode...

Tony, according to Wired (which I've recently found does a writeup about the differences between each episode and the books), the battle in the books *was* daylight.
I'll not say any more since I have no clue what's a spoiler and what isn't.

Thanks for that. I've not read the books (okay, I'm in the middle of the first one now), so I know nothing about what's coming, and I'd hate to be spoiled simply by looking at this thread.
I suspect it was cheaper to film the battle in the dark. Plus, it made the wildfire explosion look pretty damn spectacular.

I wondered if the director and/or others (haven't read the book) was really pushing the wildfire/atomic bomb parallel. It seemed rather blatant, what with the 1) "this is too terrible to unleash" 2) "it'll save lives" 3) "this will open a new and terrible era of warfare" 4) Dinklage's "I have become Death" face 5) that explosion was awful mushroom-y.

I can see M.C. Hobbit in his parachute pants and furry feet breakin' it down for me right now.

Awesome ending to season two of Game of Thrones - it's hard to visualise the white walkers, but I thought they did a good job.

Meh. The best special effect was keeping Joffrey's new squeeze's neckline just... right... there... and no further.

I've got the whole damn season TiVO'd... except for the first two episodes. I refuse to watch from the middle; I thought HBO would re-air episodes, but clearly they're holding out for Blu-Ray sales. I'm not going to buy the disks just for two episodes. I guess I should look for torrents, but I dread the thought of wading through that mess. Maybe HBO will re-air the season in a few months.
