DPBD!

Highly recommend Archer for those looking for something animated and odd...

I've just started watching Archer, and I truly like it. I'm thinking of buying back seasons on Blu-Ray or iTMS. Can't watch when the kids are around, though.

Like all guilty pleasures sadly...

PS I know that's some nordic writing from a poem called Etta, but what does your sig mean, JW?

Roughly,

"An axe age, a sword age, shields will be cloven,
A wind age, a wolf age, ere the world is broken."

Fuller version; different translation.

Ah, well now I know.

On a tangent, man I'd forgotten how entertaining those televisionwithoutpity recaps are, just little lines like:

Quote

Robb's wolf joins them and is acceptably giant.

Crack me up.

I've watched all of the Archers with my kids. So, so funny.

What a journey.
Never heard of them. I thought BBC Archer(s).

(also theme music in recent season of UK Top Gear during Stig laps) http://tinyurl.com/8455ojp
(sadly, I know enough to recognize The Archers theme music! LOL)

I hope your kids are in their teens, but yes damn funny and it's got potential for several more seasons

Too many people in GoT look alike -- I had the same problem with Chariots of Fire and Gallipolli, IIRC.

This series does feel rushed. I wish they'd been able to spread it out over a few more episodes a year; so much feels quick-hit, shorthand update on this subplot, move on to the next, with the occasional "I wish this boring person would get off the screen" interlude. The characters I actually like are probably the easiest ones to do so: the fat bloke north of the Wall, the Stark girl with the sword. In the books, is the Imp 100% a good guy? He's coming across as rather white-knight-y lately.

Actually, I'm wondering if I could do a comedy edit (for this or Fringe, where the actors also seem to be having fun as that series spins its wheels, as JJ Abrams series do) of just funny facial reactions.

They are 13 and 14, but I've never restricted what they consume. I'm very liberal, and I don't believe that entertainment equates to life lessons. So far, my kids seem to be incredibly well-rounded, well-spoken, and fit within the bounds of good morality.

>In the books, is the Imp 100% a good guy? He's coming across as rather white-knight-y lately.

In the second book this is exactly how he came across - not a saint by any means but he has common sense and decency. The only bit I was disappointed about with Tyrion is there's a scene in the book where Tyrion gets repeatedly slapped by Cersei. It seems Joffrey copped it instead.

Have you read the books, ddt? There's some parts of the story that actually seem slower than the book and a few bits that have been glossed over but I guess that's going to happen more and more over time...

Tyrion is my favourite character in the second book, he kicks ass and takes names...

Thanks, Tony. No, no interest in reading the books. I have a backlog of "Good for Me" and "Serious Shit" books that's guilting me enough.

Read them, ddt (despite my kvetching about the Author's quirks). No, really. Serious books can always wait.

I can't think of any other book series where I've been so upset that the author may die before I get to finish the series. (and yes, selfish "I get to finish the series" rather than "author gets to finish" intentional...)

Perhaps if I was dying in the mid 50s as Tolkien put out the LOTR trilogy I may be more upset...

Thanks, Tony -- but it's still not my genre/area of interest, really. I'm barely interested in the show itself; the quality of some of the actors is what keeps me watching (that and Hodor).

Tony,

You are very correct. that could have been second episode. It seemed like Dany got her shit together much more quickly in the second book as well. And there is a lot more gratuitous boobies for some reason.

Tyrion is much more ambiguous in some of the other books, but during his time in King's landing, he is truly the honorable foil to Cersei and Joffrey.
