Actually, I found the Cartoon History of the Universe (http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780385420938-3) to be a good companion for Rome, and that it helped unpack the intrigue and real history to the benefit of the drama.

I love the Cartoon History, all three volumes.

The DVD set has a subtitle setting where it pops up with all all sorts of factoids about Roman life/culture/society/history throughout each episode. You can almost pretend you're learning history while watching the sex, blood & gore...
Perhaps there's an opportunity there - have the 'Adult' DVDs renamed to 'Adult Education' ;-)

Just saw TinTin, I found it an incredible, jaw dropping film. Not sure if people outside of Europe have been brought up with the comics, as most of us overhere are. But even if you're not familiar with the story and the characters it's a very entertaining movie.

What a journey.
My kids saw it. No, we had not really heard of it. First time we did was CBS's The Amazing Race last year had some info on it. Which we found odd.
Kids liked it, though.

I was trying to explain to someone here who TinTin was last year. About two weeks later I saw that they were going to be releasing a TinTin movie and was excited about it although I will likely wait for a Blu-Ray release.

I love Hergé's work (though some of it was problematic in a colonialist sense, he really seemed to grow by the time of "Tintin in Tibet" -- note capitalization), but the thought of taking that strong design to 3D CGI JUST BECAUSE THEY COULD makes me puke. As does the Spielberg connection.

We read Tin Tin and Asterisk the Gaul at my grandmother's cottage every summer as kids. The same four hardcover collections every summer. I can't remember any of the stories now, but I imagine that if somebody quoted a line of the dialog, I would drop into a trance and mechanically pour forth the rest of the dialog from that story.

Asterisk and
footrot flats were my childhood comics (as well as the extremely politically incorrect
Dingo Lingo - to an 8 y.o. it was hilarious...)

Daniel, where did you read or hear that? 3D CGI just because they could? To me it looked like it was perfectly executed.
Both my wife and myself thought everything was very faithfully done. The small details in the Belgian town where Tintin (capitalisation, I'm used to the name 'Kuifje' as he's called in Dutch) was living were just about perfect.

I can't remember if we have a Thread of Ice and Fire, so I'm posting this here:
George R. R. Martin himself writes
Jaime Lannister vs. Cthulhu. With some help from Tyrion, of course.

Game of Thrones was a pretty good premiere. They had to change a lot of things to make the continuity work early, but having read the books, I get really excited to see what is coming.
Hunger Games. Wow. I loved the book. Finished it in the span of a day and couldn't put it down. The pacing of the movie was just not as good and I was constantly waiting for something to happen. Definitely looks like they care more about building up to the third movie. There was no need for all the scenes with Donald Sutherland tending his roses.

I haven't read the books, but I'm excited to see what is coming, too. This episode seemed largely a matter of putting pieces into place, but it was still great. Im ready to give Dinklage his second Emmy already.

Jeff,
Tyrion is the lynchpin for everything in King's landing this year. Lots of good stuff.
The problem with ASOIAF is that Martin introduces a lot of great characters in books two and three and just can't bring any coherence in books four and five. If he really thinks he is going to end with only another two or three books, he will have a lot of work to do. You will start to love characters you could never imagine and will start to loathe some like you can't image.

Like the spoilers, mokers
It's not so much fun to watch the premiere with people who haven't read the books though...
Me: Ooh! It's Stannis and Melissandre and that must be Davos...
Rest of the room: Huh? WTF is going on? Who are these people?

Anna Torv is not only cute as hell, but does a hilarious Leonard Nimoy impression. Yeah, been taking some injury time and watching S2 and S3 of Fringe.

Ooooh, temptation. I did a live chat with a friend during last week's ep, and it was fun, but I don't know if I'll be able to wait for Sunday this time.
