Roman legions were very compact compared to modern combat formations. They would be mowed down like grass with very little ammo required. A single HE shell might take out half a legion.

I watched The Blues Brothers today for the first time in ages. I love that movie more and more every time.

The roman soldiers would be on average at least 6 inches to a foot shorter due to poorer nutrition, health etc.

I don't think the roman soldiers would necessarily have better immunity etc - it was just accepted they just died more often than modern armies would accept. They were easily replaced.

100 modern day soldiers with modern weaponry and protection (say those perspex riot shields to stop arrows) would wipe out thousands of roman soldiers or any army that doesn't have cannons frankly...

What a journey.
sorry, I had stated without modern weapons. (IIRC)
I don't think any of us could compete with those from back then.
And yeah Romans went up against much taller foes almost every time.

Oh, if you're talking without modern weapons they'd kick any modern army's ass.

I think your average centurion practices a fair bit of swordplay where as your average gi joe does not...

Stumbled across something interesting... try searching for "example" on Netflix.

I ordered Steve's biography for the Kindle months ago, it downloaded a little early Sunday night. Just found out that I'll be getting a free copy of the hardcover from work. Nice!

What a journey.
Not sure how that will wash out or in what way it will be used, but for me I like over-head, from the sky, flat maps for GPS/SatNav. As I am driving in a city, I can plainly SEE the big buildings around me. Not what I NEED.

Last night I discovered "That Mitchell and Webb Look".

Why did nobody tell me about this show before?

personally, though I have seen D Mitchell many many times in things, he still has not won me over. But, I keep giving him a go.

Google will let indie artists play on the same field as the big boys.

This could be a very big deal.

Steve Jobs said that they would welcome indie artists in iTMS but they weren't willing to deal with them individually. His reasoning was insincere. They're happy to deal with app developers individually, the only reason they don't let indie artists into iTMS without going through another label or distributor like CD Baby is to avoid pissing off the major labels.

Well done, Google. Not evil for a change...

Meh. Another online storage locker. And no Warner music. They may have the indies, but they missed one of the big four.

Let's be fair to Steve, by the time he was negotiating the deal, the labels were still not over the CD.

Any thoughts on the latest (iPod/iPad and possibly AirPlay-inspired) generation of wireless speakers? Quality, value?
