Never heard of it.

Ok, very original looking.

Yeah, I actually can't wait to watch it again.

But warning: it _really_ takes advantage of the visual language of comics. In a really smart way, but in a way that might be confusing to people not familiar (you don't have to read all of Scott McCloud's series on understanding comics, but still) with that. Oh, and the visual language and conventions of 8-bit video games, too, but you can probably tell from the trailer.

I'd really recommend reading one of the books the movie is based on -- it's a six-book series, really accessible.

Hmmm...

I'm really torn over what is my favourite geek movie for the year. Can't decide between:

Kick-Ass,
Scott Pilgrim Vs the World
or
Easy A

All of them truly rocked...

I really like Kick-Ass (have it on my iPad), but if it weren't for Hit Girl's three action scenes it really would have been kind of hollow. Of course, Moby Dick would have been pretty tedious without the whale. But... what if Moby Dick had Hit Girl, and Kick-Ass had the whale? I may be pioneering a new branch of cross-over films...

I'll have to give Scott Pilgrim a chance. I vetoed it based on thinking Michael Cera is being overplayed right now. I feel like I've pretty much seen him play George Michael Bluth in every movie. If it compares favorable to kick-ass, I am totally in.

I think Kick Ass should have been named Hit Girl. I agree that SHE made the film.
Although it was a great performance by Nic Cage.

Ok, couple minutes into the Pilgrim thing ... do I need to understand what the mashup means between old/new tech and stuff? A dial phone in same scene with cell phones. 8-bit games with dance dance revolution. Old Mac with new Mac/iPhone sounds?

Gotta break to eat ...

Finally finished (busy busy) Pilgrim. My wife didn't. She said it was too much of a guy flick for her. (Even with the tiny overture to bollywood!)
So, Pilgrim, Kick Ass, Kung Fu Hustle, Fifth Element - all wacked out roller coaster rides in my opinion - am I missing more like these?

Escape from New York? They should make something like Pandora for movies; plug in ones that you like, get suggestions for more.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? (A little darker, but if you ever plan to play Bioshock it's a great lead-in.)

I need to try Buckaroo Banzai again. I couldn't make it through the first time, but I was in completely the wrong mood for it.

Is "sober" a mood? If so, yes, that's the wrong mood for watching Buckaroo Banzai.

I liked it sober. But I had to watch it twice to understand it. I'm not sure why; Pulp Fiction was much less linear and I had no problems with it.
