Finder was actually the poster child for Carbon under OS X. "Look, we wrote the Finder in it, so you know your legacy apps will keep working using the old API's!" In the early days of OS X, that was a message Adobe and MS needed to hear.

I think the rot was in Finder since before OS X. It was never intended to multi-task.

jw: i'd love to use pf, but i find it too confusing to switch back and forth, especially when i invoke it via spotlight … how do you handle that?

I use Spotlight all day. Love it ... but I need better control over what gets index. For instance, .xsl files do not get indexed so I have to go to the terminal and "find ./ -name '*.xsl' -exec grep 'xsl:sort' {} \; -print" the file tree to find what I'm looking for ...
Does anyone have an easy reference to getting stuff spotlight indexed?
I'm very interested in a new Finder but I like many things about the current one for my easy tasks.

oh the show all window is idiotic!
i love saved searches and all the little extra fields one can choose to search on ... that said I want to see more metadata control/editing for files/email/etc...
