Judging from the stuff he did, he probably never turned into a grown up.

As with any performer, I just try to enjoy their work and that's it.

I think it's fairly obvious that stardom, and the road to it, screwed him up enormously. I'm sure that he would have been judged incompetent, if he didn't have the money to shield himself from reality for as long as he did. That doesn't excuse child abuse, of course, but his accusers didn't exactly come across as unimpeachable. He may have truly been wrapped up in a Peter Pan delusion. Without knowing more, I'm trying not to judge him harshly.

it's still funny to hear how much his music played a huge role in so many people's lives -- it never really affected mine at all, and I never really liked it much. "off the wall" sounded like weak disco to me when it came out, the "bad" image made me laugh... I can see he was a good dancer but the performances never grabbed me. that said, I am really liking anew the old Jackson 5 stuff, the very earliest hits. but he didn't write those.

Whoa. Didn't see this one coming...
Billy Mays found dead at home.

What a journey.
Yeah, the strange tidbit was that he was on a flight and turbulence caused luggage to hit him on the head hours before. Similar to the skier with minor head injury dying?
Is there something MORE to flying (compression in cabin) and brain trauma? More than the general knowledge would reveal I wonder.

I'm considering buying a few tracks and videos from iTunes now. There have always been a few songs of his that I've liked, but I never wanted to give him any of my money.

I am not a big MJ fan. But my single favorite performance was this. I thought it was very good.

I personally thought his "Ghosts" video was really cool.

Quote
Rest in peace, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett & Michael Jackson,
O sidekick
O angel
O scary freak from hell--
You know how they say that bad news comes in threes?
Well I have to admit
I was kind of crapping my pants
when Ed passed, & then Farrah,
& then for a while the number three slot
was just hanging out there, unoccupied,
& I'm like, Dear sweet baby Jesus,
I don't care which celebrity buys it next,
just as long as it's not me.
Then came the news about Michael,
& all I could say was,
Whew.
Okay.
I would have bet on Swayze, but still.
We'll take it.
Phil Schiller sent around an email saying
that in memory of Michael,
Wal-Mart would be running a special offer:
boy's underpants, half off.
A bit unkind of him, I think.
Not very original, either.
Now he's in trouble with HR.
Honestly, Phil. You should know better.
LOL!

The People's Republic of North Korea has been accused of widespread attacks on South Korean and American commercial and governmental sites since the weekend; some of the attacks are ongoing.
All ur interwebz are belong to Kim Jong Il.

Well their attacks seem to be pretty successful, so this is a big deal and I wonder how it will turn out, including affects on cloud computing. I see Amazon is up, store.apple.com OK but can't connect to apple.com, lots of news sites affected. At least from my knothole this appears to be a pretty big deal.

I'm not having trouble accessing apple.com, amazon.com, cnn.com, or google news. Maybe the problem is something else, or your internet neighborhood contains something that is under attack.

The firm that employees me has a very small application that is serviced by a thrid party vendor. This vendor primarily does its builds in India but uses a web hosting firm in the Pacific Rim. We could not get to their FTP site at all. This whole globalized interweb needs more tubes with bigger dump trucks and more death eaters. Or something.

Was having lots of trouble for lots of sites this morning, while at the same time finding many that did not have a problem. But a little while later in the morning everything went OK and all seems normal.

I think messing with our internet will be the last straw. That hurts us we we live.
