What a journey.
I'm sure he was NOT married under any church recognized by the Vatican, Greek or Eastern orthodoxy.
From what I've heard of him, he's a homegrown kinda guy/church.
There are plenty of divorced and re-married folks that I see in the Catholic churches around here. I don't care to know their stories. I just know they are.

The couple married on June 7, 1980 in a Catholic ceremony in a church in New South Wales.

From what I've heard, Mel is (from the point of view of an outsider) ULTRA-Catholic. Kind of Opus Dei-ish. But even though his family is very conservative, Mel may not always have been that way. He may have drifted to the fringe over the 28 years of marriage. Perhaps that contributed to the "irreconcilable differences." Perhaps not. I dunno.

Gibson does not recognize the Pope, from what I have read.

I thought it was more a case of the Pope not recognizing Mel. Perhaps he followed one of those excommunicated conservative bishops. Of course, they've been getting re-communicated lately. I should probably stop talking about theological matters that I am utterly ignorant of.

Yeah. As far as I'm concerned Gibson has some valid points wrt Catholicism. But they are not mainstream. And he's not the best guy to give credence to for this.

I feel like I will know the truth before all of you guys, anyway. (At least this week I do)
