ddt, the time to strike is now! You must weigh as much as Bill now. Sorry to hear about it, but glad to hear your stomach is on good terms with bacon now. How about milkshakes?

Feeling better and better is important, too. Good news.

Oh, no!

Oh yes. And in addition, it looks like screw 3 (from left) is fracturing.

Sorry, Bruce. Is it really like starting over from scratch, or does any of your previous healing apply?

Sorry. Does it hurt?

Ouch Bruce. Did the doctor say what happened or was it just bad luck? Not that I think suing would be a good idea, but you might look at who manufactures the screws to see if others had problems with them before.

Bruce Robertson – May 12, 2009 06:19AM Reply Quote
It is a known problem that apparently occurs in about 1/300 cases. I think they did a poor job of warning me about it and about the level of activity that could provoke the problem. I suspect this was activity related. You get the idea that you should be using and flexing the hand as much as is tolerable.

Even with that stuff, did they give you a soft external brace (think carpal brace) for it?

Bruce Robertson – May 12, 2009 08:23AM Reply Quote
Yes, I had a brace, but they stressed using it less and less as part of recovery.
If you look at the image, you can see exactly why this is happening. Right at the apex of the bend in the plate, you can see where the bone is broken.
Basically there was a hinge point there, and the very firmly anchored screws on the right, and motion at the hinge point would just lever the other screws out.

Doctor who performed original surgery is not "in plan" for my insurance. Due to doing this the first time via emergency room, he was covered at in-plan rate.
For this operation, he wouldn't be, and I was trying to shop around. But they offered to cut the non-covered portion of their charge! Friday afternoon I go in.

had two Dr.s appointments in last 24 hours. Bottom line is concern that I am not gaining significant weight. Doc this morning is concerned someone (else) has missed a cancer elsewhere in my body. I'll be starting up the whole flurry of tests/visits/diagnosis/treatment again it looks like.
And today is the anniversary of my Dad's death. :(

You won the first round, Bill. If there's a Round 2, you'll do just as well.

Bill:

I hope the blood draws go well, and for goodness sake I hope to heck that they don't find anything bad. Can I send you some on the cursed peanut butter cups that taunt me as walk past the cube of the thinnest woman in the office???
