Good luck with it... and I want to applaud your use of a two-apostrophe word.

I think that cortisone is essentially an anti-inflammatory steroid. It can reduce inflammation for months, often leading to pain relief. My father gets a shot every six months for his shoulder, and it brings him back to 100%. Well, 100% of an 80-year-old's capabilities. It can hurt your immune system, so they don't like to go nuts with it. My first shot, for the rotator cuff, didn't really have much of an effect, most of my pain is in my arm. I'm hopeful for this second one, but it'll take 4 or 5 days to take effect.

On the plus side, my lizardification seems to have stopped. I've got some scarring, but no more scales.

Thanks. I considered going with, "I would have," but I wanted to write as though I was speaking.

Rotator cuff and cortisone shots... you're not moonlighting as a pitcher for the Diamondbacks, are you?

What a journey.
When I used to work out, I heard good things about and bought the guide (book is too big a word) 7 minute rotator cuff solution.
http://www.amazon.com/7-Minute-Rotator-Cuff-Solution/dp/0944831257

So, work is 'paying us' to track our exercise-ish activities. So, hundreds of dollars.
Simplest thing is to wear a walking-counter (I don't like the official name for those things.)
I sit most of the day. And on vacation guess what... I SAT LESS than on a normal/working day in I.T.
This surprised me, though.

My work has special benefits for improving one's health, but they began the program right after I lost 50 lbs. I'll be damned if I'll let them set my new start point after I've lost so much weight (75 lbs now).

YDD, I never could throw a baseball. That's what's so unfair: I never USE the damn joint and I still wore out my cartilage.

That sounds awful, JW. Do they have any explanation for why the cartilage thinned out?

Would fish oil & glucosamine help even marginally?

I'm stuck in bed atm due to a minor pressure mark on my butt - which means weeks of lying side to side while it fades. My shoulders will be damn sore by the end of that.

Not quite the same but I can sympathise...

Oh, Tony, I know that my ailments would be a bed of roses for some Sporkers. I just like to whine. As far as I know, once the cartilage is gone, it's gone. No replacement or regrowth possible.

Good luck with the shots, JW. I hope this next round helps more than the last.

Turns out that this cortisone shot has done a lot of good. I have regained about half of the range of motion that I lost, and while it is quite painful to operate near my limits, more moderate use is MUCH less painful. If I keep my arm more or less at my side, or in front of me, I have virtually no pain from the shoulder. The bicep is still a problem, of course, but the shoulder was a big chunk of my daily pain and it is much diminished. Yay, steroids! Now, bring on the opiates!

Tony, vacation time might cheer you up? Just a thought. Find something good in every day. You can call me names if that would make you laugh....

Found where it's at!
After a discussion with a counselor, a chat with my regular doctor, and a round of 20 questions, I've been diagnosed as moderately to severely depressed. I start on Wellbutrin tomorrow. We'll see in two weeks how it goes...
