Thanks for the kind words guys. I don't think I'm Robinson Crusoe with the health problems.
And today is another (better) day...

That looks very promising and potentially exciting, Tony. It won't help me, though--my MS diagnosis was retracted about 2 1/2 years ago. My current diagnosis is something along the lines of unidentified genetic neuropathy with central and peripheral characteristics--in other words, everyone agrees that my nervous system (central and peripheral) is screwy, but no one can explain why. The NIH is on the case--but they work slowly, and I've been told that even if they can identify a particular cause for my condition, it's unlikely that they'll be able to offer much in the way of treatment. There is (thankfully) a big research budget for MS. For Cooper's Disease, not so much. But the good news is that, except for my eyes, I'm in reasonably good shape these days.

Oh, I didn't realise that. Well, I guess that's both bad and good news, as long as "Cooper's disease" is relatively benign and non-aggressive.
Hand/finger dexterity still ok?
(this will sound slightly silly but the human hand is such a miraculous invention it almost makes me believe in so-called intelligent design...)

Thanks, Tony. The hands are doing okay--there's been some progression in general clumsiness and loss of balance, but the most worrying thing is my eyes (this is related to the neurological issues). Hanging in there for now. And in some ways my health is better than it's been in over a decade. I feel very lucky.

Up to a ten minute mile after a few weeks of running. It's slightly hilly and there are two miles involved. Alas, I found out that this is only nearly passable. Rats. Must up the ante tomorrow.

If it's any consolation, I couldn't do a ten-minute fifty-yard dash.

That's not bad, baha. My chair on top speed (a pretty brisk jogging pace) would take approx 10 minutes to do a mile.
You can outrun a cripple!

I've never been able to run a mile either - shin splints. I can play basketball and tennis all day long. But not just run straight. (oh, and for the women out there... all NIGHT long.. wink wink, nudge nudge)

When I did the Indianapolis half-marathon last month, my average mile time was more than 13 minutes. Granted, 13 miles is a long way, but still. I'd say 10 minute miles aren't too bad. In fact, I'd like to run them myself.

Wow, half marathon, nice! I did two miles today at an average pace of 9 minutes, 15 seconds. Was keen to outdo my performance and made lots of sprints in the run. Apparently anything below 9 minutes is running. above is jogging.

Good job! Be careful, though--don't hurt yourself trying to go too fast.
Might I suggest a (relatively short-term) goal of 5k in 27:50--just under 9 min./mile? I remember when I could do that. Sigh.

What a journey.
we started a new benefits year where one gets paid to do health assessments and such. Mine came back GLOWING, 90+% for my age, et al. What a joke these things are. I'm sure it would have said the same thing prior to my nearly deadly cancer, too! My dad had a few heart attacks and his cholesterol and triglycerides were fabulous. A guy I know who eats great, exercises like crazy and TRULY IS in great shape got HORRIBLE test results. Go figure. And I'll still likely be the guy that drops dead in the middle of the day at work.

-Swine Flu free since...cough, cough...
My turn to have fun. Instead of going to work today, I thought a heart attack would be more fun.
Boy, was I wrong.
But after an angiogram and a stink put in, I'm on the mend.
Thank jobs for wifi in hospitals.
