Runs OK on my 2.33 MBP --

What are you supposed to do with it?? Just dick around with characters?

Yes. And it's awesome.

Oh, and...
Command-Return goes to windowed mode.

I admire how they've done loading creatures. The data structure is hidden in .png previews of the creations. You can drag and drop the .png's onto the window from the finder to load them! Pretty damn Mac-like for being cider.

Ugh. I have one more Jump left to find in Burnout Paradise. It's driving me nuts (no pun intended).

Otherwise, I have found all of the smashes and all of the billboards. I've finished all of the Burning Route events. I've finished all of the Marked Man events. I've finished all of the Road Rage events. I have two Race events left and the rest are Stunt Run events. I hate the Stunt events. I've only done one so far. Oh, I also have 77 out of 80 cars and, according to whatever logic they use, I'm 79% done with the game overall. I guess there's all of the Road Rules stuff as well.

I finally got it. Now to finish those last two races and those stupid stunt runs. Well, not "now." I'm going to bed now.

Question for fellow WOW sporkers here: why can't retribution Pallys be decent tanks? I think I do a decent job of it but all the hardcore players are calling me a noob?

DPBD!

You must get way more WOW time than me JW, wasn't your BE Pally only a couple of levels above mine a while back? Now lvl 70?

I need to get more sneaky...

And I haven't played WoW since May. But I don't tank. I've seen Prot Pallies do a brilliant job of it, but they've had to really make the most of their talents and spells. It's easier to tank with a prot warrior, so they can slide by with less effort.

When this guy was in our guild, he was a fearsome pally tank, but Prot.

There are some rumors to the effect that with the expansion you will be able to toggle between two specs, so you could have a prot spec for tanking and a ret spec for PvE.

Burnout Paradise 99% complete.

All that's left are four "Challenges" that are going to take some time.

I almost got one of them last night. You need to get a 20x "boost chain." I made it to 19x and crashed. Ugh.

The other three suck since they're stunt-related. I need to get a 40x multiplier in a stunt run (the best I have done so far is a 16x). I also need to get 80% and 100% in Extreme Parking (or maybe it's called Power Parking or something like that).

I wish they could have just left the stunt stuff out of this game.

What kind of MMO player are you?

I got a very accurate:

AEKS
AEKS players are interested in the player-versus-environment aspect of the game more than anything else. They are often soloists who want to achieve and see what the world has to offer. Often, they find groups cumbersome and PVP to be more an annoyance than a feature.
Breakdown: Achiever 66.67%, Explorer 60.00%, Killer 46.67%, Socializer 26.67%

Hmmm...

EAKS
EAKS players often live by the phrase 'The journey is often more enjoyable than the destination.' They are motivated by meeting the challenges of the world, but they are usually in no rush--because seeing the creatures and places of the world is even more fun.
Breakdown: Achiever 46.67%, Explorer 80.00%, Killer 40.00%, Socializer 33.33%

For some of the questions I'd have likes to answer "neither". Basically I like to 1) get new stuff 2) explore new areas and 3) See whether the new stuff helps me not own the graveyard so much in pvp...

Formerly Remy Martin
ASEK
ASEK players like to pit themselves against the grand-challenges of a virtual world. They see grouping and guilds/clans not only as an enjoyable aspect of the social environment, but also as a way to achieve goals that cannot be achieved as an individual.
Breakdown: Achiever 80.00%, Explorer 40.00%, Killer 40.00%, Socializer 40.00%

KSEA
KSEA players often seek out PVP in a game, but they are looking to socialize with and form alliances with other players who are interested in doing the same. They often seek out guilds or clans that organize formal PVP events, or work on group strategies and tactics.
Breakdown: Achiever 26.67%, Explorer 33.33%, Killer 80.00%, Socializer 60.00%

Also... a gaming Swiffie for the GeForce 8800GT. Got one to replace my Radeon 1900XT in my first-gen MacPro.

Radeon = wind tunnel
GeForce = can't hear it over the (very quiet) air conditioner.

Faster too, of course.

I finished all of the single-player stuff in Burnout Paradise. The last piece was getting a 40x multiplier in a stunt run. I ended up getting 43x multiplier. I am now at 100% completion.

The next step is to get 101% completion. To do this, I have to complete two sets of 50 online challenges. There are 350 total online challenges separated into sets of 50. Each set is based on how many individuals must participate in the challenges and since there can be a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 8, there are 7 sets. Once I reach this mythical 101% completion stage, I get one additional car added.

I hope I can get this done before Thursday when the next update is released since this update will add a lot more functionality to the game. It would be nice to reach 101% before then.

Everything except for the stunt run events is a lot of fun.

Apple's had some failed attempts in the gaming market, but this Macalope post would seem to offer a no-risk, low-cost, semi-stealth way to get back into that business. I guess the appleTV would have to be seriously beefed up to compete with XBox and PS3, but how do its processor/graphics compare to the Wii?

johnny k – July 22, 2008 07:47AM Reply Quote
The AppleTV outspecs the Wii in every area. I don't know if the Wii has mobile components like the AppleTV (Pentium M, GeForce Go 7400), but they're components that are 2x the MHz of the Wii's, and it has way more RAM and VRAM and storage to boot. ATV can do HD, the Wii cannot. The AppleTV offers an amazing amount of performance and functionality for the price, which is why I'm using it for a proposed project.

The Wii's software may be more optimized to squeeze performance out of the hardware, though.
