I used to spend a crazy amount of time playing Burnout Paradise on the PS3. Haven't touched the game in close to two years now.

A coworker had never played the game before.

Well, I just built a new gaming rig over the weekend and happened to see that a local bookstore had the PC version of Burnout Paradise for $9.98, my coworker and I both went in and bought copies of it.

I'm getting hooked all over again... and this time it's more immersive since I'm using a steering wheel and pedals. So much fun.

I love that game so much. Miss the crash mode from the old PS2 Burnout Revenge, but there's apparently some new Burnout game just coming out via PSN download that has it?

Well, the "Showtime" mode in Burnout Paradise is supposed to be sort of an evolution of the crash mode in Burnout Revenge.

The new game out for Xbox and PS3 is called Burnout Crash and looks like it's basically just the Showtime mode from Paradise.

I liked the arcade-y feel of crash mode in Revenge, though.

Yeah, the Showtime mode never did it for me -- it feels both less challenging and more random than the old PS2 game's crash mode, because you have more ability to control where the car goes even after you crash it. The old game's crash mode felt like mayhem-based golf, where you had to really plan your shot carefully before taking it for the best result (even choosing a light or heavy car, like choosing a club). The racing in Paradise is more fun, but the crashing is much less so for me -- I was really addictively compelled by the crashing on the PS2 game.

Edit: this is making me really think about buying the DLC for the Paradise game. Worth it?

Ooh! Scary! Scary! Don't we look mean? You can't see me! But I can see you!
I bought the DLC stuff and it's pretty fun. Especially the added island.

Sadly, the island is only on the PS3 and Xbox; it's not available for the PC version. The other stuff (Cagney, Bikes and Party Pack) come preinstalled with the PC version (called The Ultimate Box).

Is the Ultimate Box the one you can get for $9.99 at 1/2 Price Books?

Yes, and it's worth every penny.

Hmmm. World of Warcraft just jumped the shark so hard they can't even see the shark tank from where they landed. After seven years, I'm letting my subscriptions drop. I'm not looking for Kung Fu Panda, the MMO.

Well, I for one cannot wait for the expansion to Jewbilation, the land of moneylenders, and use a special hooknose cabal attack.

And after that there'll be the "Crikey!" expansion with a new class called Irwins who do battle with evil Stingrays and their hopping mad Kangaroo overlords...

Maybe they shouldn't churn out expansions just for the sake if it...

It's been obvious that their "A" Team (yes, with Murdoch) has been working on their next MMO for a couple of years now. They obviously don't have the manpower or creative talent to come up with expansions like their first two.

I'm sticking with LotRO and AoC until SWTOR comes out in December. And probably for a month or two thereafter, launch being what they usually are.

I've long prided myself in not being a game player but I've been spending a somewhat stupid amount of time playing games.

I've spent 29 hours playing Burnout Paradise in the last 4 weeks.

Now I've started playing GRID, DiRT2 and DiRT 3 as well as a few FPS and adventure games. Eeek.
