For anybody with even a passing interest in first person shooters, the original Call of Duty and some others in the series are on sale at half price on the Mac App Store right now. $15. For a week supposedly, but I don't know when the week began. Probably Veteran's Day?
The original runs smoothly on my MacBook Air. I played it through this weekend just for the nostalgia of it.
The odd thing is that on Aspyr's site they are only selling a version that is not compatible with Lion. I played my old copy for a while and it eventually freaked out, and proved the Aspyr site correct. (I bought the new version because I like the App store model and can download it on all my Macs, now and future.) But the versions on the Mac App Store ARE Lion compatible. So if you buy a digital download from Aspyr directly, you will get a non-Lion compatible version, but you get a better version through the App Store. Weird.

I prefer Mac/PC gaming. I like my games like my strippers; in my lap, not across the room.

Gonna carve up some Jedi tonight!
So, I'm taking that to mean you'll be playing on the side of the job creators -- I mean, the Empire?

You get to pick unique surnames for your characters in the game; I'm thinking about "Cheney."

There needs to be an HTML tag that plays the "Imperial March," for use whenever that Black Name is written.

I'm enjoying SWTOR very much, btw. I've got a Level 10 Sith Inquisitor (light saber, lightning from fingers, typical upbeat attitude). I haven't met any actual Jedi yet, but I've had a nice time chopping up Republic minions and rebels against the Sith.
They don't understand the POWER of the Dark Side...

DPBD!
Having looked through the intro stuff on the SWTOR webpage, it does seem a pretty blatant WOW ripoff...

Meh. Most MMO's have a lot of overlap. The big differences from WoW are:
Companions (NPC's who team with you or even gather resources for your crafting while you quest)
Spoken quests. So far, every quest I've taken has had a cutscene video which included my character and BOTH sides of the discussion were voiced.
You can guide these conversation, at least approximately. Every now and then, you get a 3-choice selection. You can seriously muck up relations with quest givers or (gulp) the Empire. The responses aren't all variants of "Yes, Sir!" or "Screw you!"
Compelling story line for the one class I've played.
Very Star-Warsy environments. (Which sort of annoys me... everything looks like the original movies, only about thirty years older. Republic technology really hasn't advanced much in the thousands of years from the MMO to the movies!)
I find the playable aliens to be kind of boring, so my characters so far are human.
Finally, and most importantly, lightsabers are cool!
This pre-launch early access has been smoother than any of the many others I have participated in. Of course, TRUE launch, for everybody is still a few days away but I think that most of the pre-orders are playing now.

Speaking of new games, I've been playing Battlefield 3 for the past several days, and the sound and graphics are absolutely incredible. Now I need to find several hundred dollars so I can rebuild my old PC.

Oh, and JW - let me know if there's a "Die Jar-Jar, die!" type quest/instance in the game and I'll be all over that like a fat kid on cake...

I have decided to adopt Sith philosophies in my child rearing. It means that they'll kill me when/if they grow up, but that's the Dark Side for you.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
