FAIL

So actually thought Microsoft would succeed with their latest marketing attempt? Thought so.

Oh, man, this Microsoft print ad is just begging for a mac-pc parody from Apple. I can just see John Hodgman breaking down walls with a reciprocating saw in hand.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the video ads was that Apple was going to parody them. I am not sure what is more ridiculous this morning, listening to the details of the biggest government bailout ever on NPR, or listening to the guy say "I am not a human doing, but a human being." I hope there is no images out there of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria using iPods.

I'm a PC... but I'm looking forward to 5:00 so I can be a Mac again.

This is really interesting. I'm reading an interview with the Chief Architect of the C# language at Microsoft. I was rather surprised by the following quote:

Quote

Now, you can argue that we’re not obviously open source or anything, but the language is standardized, and the entire specification is available for anyone to go replicate. Mono has done so, and I think Mono is a fantastic thing. I don’t know [if] you’re familiar with Mono, but it’s an implementation of the C# standard and the CLI standard (which is effectively the .NET standard) on Linux, built as an open source project. And they’re doing great work and we talk to them a lot and I think it’s a super thing.

Translation: "Damn straight we need SOMETHING that is a bit less Windows Only, my gawd have you seen how stupid simple it is for just about anybody to argue that Linux servers are going to rule the world. Cripes, has anybody looked at the wreckage once known as Sun? Sure the existence of MSFT as a company is a lock as long as sheep demand everything in .doc format, but my little division here is not really part of THAT and as much as I'd love the macro-biotic cafeteria I really don't want to move to Google to make a living so you bet your bippy I am fascinated by Mono..."

The slagging of the MBU by other MS employees is... um, interesting, if somewhat questionable. I know I'd be kind of pissed if I was the MBU GM. Then again, they'd never hire me for that job.

Wow, looks like MS is changing its tune on opens source.

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in Useless Links or Rumors or... whatever.

Is Microsoft trying to build its own Genius Bars?

Yeah, that's been coming for a while. Does MS have no marketing ideas of their own?

Hey, kids! If any of you are responsible for any Windows devices, I suggest blocking off your calendar for the rest of the day.

An emergency out-of-band patch is coming from Microsoft in about 15 minutes. The information I have hints at this being on-par with Slammer, et al.

Um. What's "Slammer"?

[EDIT] OK, an SQL worm spread via UDP, I guess. Bad juju.

[EDIT EDIT] More on today's patch.
