Does Safari make your soldier salute? Does Camino put the starch in
your shorts, or do you prefer the petit piquancy of OmniWeb's studded rubber
nubs?

Or do you saving a (very) personal space on your Dock for the Mac version
of Opera? Hmmmmmmm?

Same on Mac. In order to revert to Safari 3, you have to run the uninstaller package for Safari 4 Beta.

I like that the Top Sites window stars pages with new content ...

No crashes on Windows or Mac for me yet ...

The tab button? I guess I always open links in a new tab or CMD-T but yes, it's out of the way.

---

With a cursory look the new Inspector appears to rock! About to try it out for real.

On the Windows version, they give the the option of choosing Quartz-style font-rendering or Windows Standard font-rendering. They have also eliminated all of the Aqua UI widgets from the Windows version. No more gumdrop buttons or toothpaste scroll bars. Hurrah!

Now if they'd just get rid of them on the Mac side as well, I'd be thrilled.

Why can't they use iTunes-style widgets throughout OSX? I'd be much happier.

Does the new position of the reload button mean that we've lost "snap back?" Not that I ever used it much. Can we Cover Flow open tabs, or just history? I can't find an option to do that, but it seems like I ought to be able to. I like the animation when you detach a tab to make a new window.

What a journey.
Do you say that with and odd accent, like in the movie? :)

DPBD. I think that this may be the way that Spork ends. Bill and DDT fighting it out with broadsword and katana in an abandoned factory.

I always saw myself in my van, coming up behind ddt with a menacing look on my face, and laughing. Fade to black.

The Inspector in Safari 4 is starting to rock. Much more useful like Firebug extension in Firefox but I'll wager that Safari won't be a pig dog the way FF3 becomes after a little browsing. We'll see...

Wow, Safari is now a spitting image of Chrome on Windows. Like the look of it.`But I really like my extensions in Firefox which makes it incredibly hard to leave. Especially things like NoScript are indispensable for me.

Did anybody use the History option already? I think it's cool!

It feels like there's too much space between items on the bookmarks bar.

How do you force Top Sites to show a page so that you can thumbtack it?

I just tried the History thing and it brought my system to its knees. Fail.

Hm, Safari 4 is pretty nice so far, and I tried some of the database examples.

Am I missing something here? Now that there's no menu bar, there's no Bookmarks menu. Anything that would be in the Bookmarks menu can only be accessed by clicking the Bookmark icon to open up the sidebar and navigating to the Bookmarks Menu area.

I also don't see a way to clear search history.

I'm not sure if this is only on the Windows version (I'll check when I get home) but if I click on the magnifying glass on the left side of the search box a menu pops up... the only way to get that menu to go away is to either select an item from the menu or click somewhere outside of the menu. This is counter-intuitive. I'm used to having the ability to close a menu by clicking in the same spot that I clicked to open that menu. This is also the case for the Page and Settings menus to the right of the search box.

You can turn on the menu bar and your bookmarks menu is there.

Hmm. I must have missed the option to turn the menu bar on. I'll look when I get back in the office tomorrow.

Back on my Mac at home, I see that the problem with the search box is the same... you can click the magnifying glass to open the menu but you can't click it a second time to close the menu, you have to click somewhere outside of the menu. It is also missing the ability to clear the search history.

I really don't like the fact that the Stop button is only visible if you hover the mouse over the twirly activity flower thing. Really, that makes absolutely no sense to me (I still don't like having the stop/reload buttons share the same physical space either).

Otherwise, I'd say this is a pretty solid improvement.

Hit Reset Safari and only check the Search History checkbox.

I really like this browser, it feels like a solid Windows browser in stead of a Mac emulation package running Safari, it's much more responsive as well.
