I actually liked the idea of Sea Lion. That would have allowed a smooth transition to other aquatic animals as well (Orca, Mako, etc.).

I haven't seen that before... I've seen "Carrier" and "No Carrier", and a carrier name, of course. With a single machine? Probably not; the pipe to the "outside" will still be the limiter. BETWEEN machines/devices, it will most definitely make any data intensive ops better (file copies, 'in-house' streaming, etc).

WRT to the other rack-mounting comment and the SGI-like focus of the new Mac Pros, (1) the cheese graters weren't easily rack mountable either; given how small these will be, I can see much potential for 3rd-party solutions just like the rest (surely no one expected a new Xserve? also - these are going back to desktop, not deskside form factors), and (2) in the new pro world, storage is all outboard these days anyway (SAN, RAID, etc).
