Unlocked 4S and gave to daughter. Got her a Ptel paygo micro card from eBay (.99 cents plus free shipping). Activated it with a top up card. Took three minutes to set up.

T-Mobile is live. P-Tel will even send out usage alerts.

Hell, this could be a great solution for anyone who doesn't use a phone much, let alone my daughter. i decided that p-tel is the way to go. she's old enough to understand what burning through her data means. should it happen, one month of her allowance going to data will take care of any more mistakes.

I want to set my daughter up with a pay-as-you-go account, perhaps from PTEL.

She would have no data use except for wifi.

She would have the ability to make and receive phone calls and texts.

I would have the ability to find her using Find my iPhone.

I turned off cellular data and wifi on my iPhone. I went to icloud.com/find and it couldn't see the iPhone.
